Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / arden grange v royal canin for puppies?

Does anyone have an experience of these foods for raising a litter on?

My bitch is currently on royal canin, and she is ok on it, has gone a little bit red this summer with the sun (is a black dog), but generally good coat, looks decent on it and I have no real complaints. I am considering switching her to arden grange, mainly to see if she gains that extra little sparkle and see if the red fades, and I like the fact it has more then one flavor as she sometimes picks at her tea and I wonder if variety will help. I hope to put her in whelp in a couple of months, and (rightly or wrongly) the corresponding puppy food will be a factor in my switch.

The breed is a medium, active one :)

Thanks

the breeder of my BC pup raised them on AG and the litter did very well on it.  They did puppy packs then (this was about 3 years ago) and we got vouchers off a large sack of the food.

Hi
I raised a Golden Retriever litter on Arden Grange last year & they were a vibrant healthy bunch! Big chunky puppies with absolutley no upset tums throughout which I thought was a minor miracle! I weaned straight onto the Puppy/Junior with no problems at all & most are still on AG, albeit probably the Adult food now at just a year old.

My own adult dogs are fed AG too, and have great coats & skin (not always been the case).

Am very happy with the food.

Royal Canin made my pups loose, could only get away with using it mixed at 25% to 75% other.

No such issues with Arden Grange Prestige or Puppy.

I am sure others will have opposing views, it so much depends on what agrees with your dogs.

The Royal Canin made my adults loose,s o I should not have been surprised, but I wanted to use up the food I had won, and bought the puppy with vouchers from a good win.

Price wise on the breeders scheme Arden Grange comes off better, and more importantly is less expensive for new puppy owners.

thanks everyone :)

It sounds like a switch to arden grange is definately worth a go :) Royal Canin did used to have a good rep but more and more people recently seem to have little niggles with it.

Raised two litters on Arden Grange and very, very happy with the results. Good, healthy, fit puppies all with beautifully formed poos, all of the time :-D

i raised my litter on Arden Grange, i also have the adults on it.  It was good for the pups but it may have made them a little bigger for their age than they would be.  They ate it with no problems, would even eat it on their own.  at the moment they are a little picky maybe due to teething.

My older ones don't really like it, they're on prestige and i have to mix oils in it for them to eat.  Noticed on all dogs they have dry coats, starting to supliment the pups until i find another food i like.  The pups seem to like mums food that has been soaked in oils.  Royal cannin i could never anyone to eat it.

Mine did well on pro-plan and Eukanuba when they were young, i took them off it as i didn't know if the scare stories were true, pity as coats were brilliant.

Now i feed some raw meat , dried on top of meals and partly cooked veg.
