Don't want to start a fight re raw versus dried, just peoples opinions please!  For a Border Collie pup, breeder will have her on a wholesalers own brand and I would like to change to something I know/recognise!

Hi, firstly I wouldn't rush to change your pup's food as soon as you get it home (I'm assuming that this is a puppy you are getting?). You may not like/agree with the food that's being fed, but so long as the pups are fit and healthy, the most important thing is to give some continuity once you get it home. The worst thing you can do is to immediately change food as soon as you get it home. On top of all the other big changes that'll be happening, adding a food change is a sure guarantee to a dodgy tummy. Wait 2 or 3 weeks before fiddling with it's food, if you feel it necessary to do so.

I would say there are some very good own brand foods about.

My pups (BCs) are raised on Arden Grange Puppy/Junior, and my recent litter also had Fish 4 Dogs puppy food - alternated/combined the two feeds. I'm very happy with both. My adult BCs are also fed AG (lamb & rice usually), with the occasional bag of Fish 4 Dogs. It's a food that suits us, and as said, the pups do very well on it.

Both pups and adults also have raw meat fed as toppers.

I feed my border collie on Fish4dogs adult now but fed fish4dogs puppy when i got her at 6 months old from the rescue kennels - fab coat!

As others have said, make the change gradually, give her a couple of weeks to settle in with you, then change it gradually. My fussy madam is eating Wainwrights puppy complete, and my others were raised on James Wellbeloved.

As others have said, I would feed the pup exactly what the breeder has been feeding for a few weeks at least to avoid a major upset. Don't forget that the few weeks involve vaccinations as well as worming as well as major changes, so plenty of opportunity for upset.

Our last litter were raised on Arden Grange Puppy/Junior & they were the healthiest looking pups you could wish for. My own pup was put onto the adult Lamb & Rice at around 10 months as my adults are fed on it, and is still doing very well.

My daughter changed her bitch over to Fish4Dogs about 6 months ago, and is doing really well on it (won't try Arden Grange but that's daughters for you lol!). Fish4dogs would be my preferred 2nd choice, and it's done wonders for her dog as she was intolerant to some foods.
