Hi all first time I've posted just after some positive stories.I have a small breed bitch and we attempted to breed her for the first time in July. She had a slip mate twice. Vet advised bring her for a scan 3-4 weeks after.took her friday when she was 23 days since first mate and scan showed no pups but a sac of fluid.have to take her back 22 aug. Was she scanned too early? Hoping she may have litter still and scan was wrong?anyone had anything similar?as the fluid sac is there keeping fingers crossed.thanks in advance for any positive stories

Yes too early for scanning, 30days is the best time, I hope they don't charge next time after telling you to bring her in so early.

sorry but what's a slip mating?
I'm imaging its where a dog slips out beforehand? Or a dog and bitch tie but no successful mating?

A slip mating is a mating without a tie.
A friend had trouble mating a bitch only getting slip matings. She has just been scanned on day 29 and she is pregnant but with only 1 puppy. I would say the scan is too early.

Just seen on Facebook a very experienced breeder had her bitch scanned at the usual time and showed nothing so she went into hospital for some elective surgery.
The day she got home she thought the bitch looked fat and blamed the person looking after her. The bitch proceeded to scratch up and whelp 6 puppies that day :-)
