Hi, i was wondering if anybody have an experience with constipated puppies, our small breed bitch had a litter of seven babies just 2 weeks ago (C-section), sadly we lost 2 beautiful babies only 2 days after they were born. The other 5 were doing great until few days ago when they became constipated, we are watching them 24 hrs a day, the mom doesn't clean the faeces she never did. She is nursing them and massaging them but no luck with going to potty. Any advice on this issue?

try  sugar water in a bottle twice aday wipe there bottoms with baby wipes should work

So if mum hasn't been toileting the pups, have you been doing it? Is there any particular occurence which could account for this, or do you suspect they may have been like this for some time?

A friend came to help me with my last litter, and she insisted that we toilet every puppy within a short time of being born, as she felt it important to make sure the plug was out, thus preventing early problems. I  must admit it did feel a bit wierd but all puppies thrived and we had no problems. I'll do it if we ever have another litter. I also regularly sat down with a bowl of warm water and cotton wool and toileted the pups. Gave mum a helping hand and also ensured she didn't "miss" any.

I've heard that putting a little oil onto a cotton bud and trying to stimulate pups can help. Can't say how effective this might be. Hope you find a solution & the pups get back to normal soon.

Try 0.25 mls of Lactulose orally [over the counter at chemist, don't tell them what you want it for]twice a day will help soften the poo making it easier to pass.

Has Mum eaten anything different over the past few days that she could have passed on to the pups?

ive also used lactulose for pups its very good! but your pups could be like this due to needing to be wormed!! ive always found that around this time when pups are due for worming their like this. x
