I've got 2 puppies 3 weeks old now ... one of them (the bigger one 40oz) started walking a few days ago whilst the other little one (38 1/2oz) is still only able to sit up and shuffle herself around backwards... she doesnt seem to have the strength in her backlegs like her sister and has always been the weaker one from the start... any little exercises i can do to help her as she's getting left behind ;-)

Being only two pups, and p0retty heavy I imagine for their breed at this age, may just mean they are a shade slow in wanting to get off their fat butts!! LOL :D

I assume you have them in a puppy pen. How about taking them somewhere interesting like the kitchen when you are feeding them, and their natural curiosity about the world around them should get them moving. I wouldn't worry for another week if they ae a bit unsteady!

hehe yes fat butts - they are stong little things!!! they were 10 and 8 1/2oz at birth!!!! and still the vet said she wasnt expecting!!!

I'm sat here worrying if they are getting enough food because mum doesnt want to feed any more and really they need a diet!! lol - oh god I hope a strange large breed hasnt got to my girl!!! Now I'm worrying lol.... naaaaaaaaa mums just been on too much good food - though she herself is small she's just given it all to the babies i guess... but do you think 2oz a day is excessive coz i think its quite substantial myself!

I would be very pleased with that gain in my own breed.

As they have done so well, I would leave Mum to feed or not feed them as she pleases now that your are offering alternative nourishment. with a small well grown litter like this, who have had Mums best, it isn't unusual for weaning to f9inish early, as they are well ahead and ready for other food.

Once they start to get around more the weight will be run off.

the little pup just took a couple of proper steps on all 4s... I just let them feed one at a time now a couple of times a day so they dont fight over teats as this upsets mum... although she still shakes when the big one goes on her but at least she doesnt run off any more.... i think the big one just has a vice like suction action... we've named her greedy!
