My local vets did mine, maybe yours would too. If they have any issues with what they are seeing then maybe they might send it off to a specialist. I suppose it depends on the services available at your local vets, mine are a large established branch with access to vet hospital facilities.

your local vets will do it,it will tell you if your dog has hv,but cant tell you if your dog is a carrier of it,my pug has hv,his parents were x rayed clear of hv,i personally think that also unless your pug is having issues, why risk putting it under for xray,as the flat faced pug are more at risk

Hi thanks for this.

Call me thick but i never realised that even if they are clear of HV they could still carry it and pass it to there offspring.

well in that case...

its debatable across the pug breed,x rays at the mo are the only way to tell if your pug has hv,so pug breeders x ray their pugs and if the xray is clearer they can say the xray is clear, the dog is free from hv etc etc, but, george is  a kc reg pug,his mum and dad were hv clear, but george has hv(as well as entropion, baos, slipping patellas etcetc)so the x ray is not set in stone, but its the best they can do,so,unless you want to breed,or your puggy is showing signs of hv,i dont see the point in putting your flat flaced breed under as they are more at risk xxxxxxxxxbut thats just my views

Sorry to hear about your pugs health issues, is it a pointless test or is it very much like HD if parents have a low score then the puppies will be less likely to suffer with HD? But there are no guarantees? What about Putnam patella scoring if both parents are free from this can puppies still have this? Its not pointless hip-scoring so id see these tests in very much the same way. There are no guarantees unless genetically clear through DNA screening, and there are yet no tests for HD, HV or LP mostly eye tests and vWBD hemophilia etc
