Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Puppy packs - what do we all put items into?
- By JTHOM1 [gb] Date 05.08.11 17:59 UTC
Hi all,
I am just putting together puppy packs for new owners but dont know what to put items that are included into.  A carrier bag seems cheap and nasty?
What do we all do?
Many thanks

Last time I bought some of the bigger, heavier gift bags and used them for most everything.  I included a puppy collar and lead, the puppy packs from the breeders club/s I'm a member of, a couple of small used toys from their puppy pen so they had stuff that smelled like them, a couple of small new toys of the same type as the used ones.  Obviously things like the contract, feeding guidelines etc...

I'm sure there were a few more bits and pieces.  If they had brought me a blanket to put in with the pups then they got that back, if they didn't then I sent one.

This time around I'm going to use Vistaprint and get some of the cloth bags with my kennel logo on them and use them for the puppy packs.

(ps - if you use vistaprint, do NOT give them your credit card details - pay by paypal.  If you use them that way they are completely safe and I use them for almost everything printed these days - and they always have special offers - so register with them first and wait for their welcome email which will usually have the special offer links in it.)

I have put together my puppy packs recently,The obvious first
Registration papers
5 generation pedigree
Accredited breeders info/folder
Insurance
details on breed clubs
feeding details/info
Breed details
copy of weight chart/pictures through the weeks
micro chip info(they will be chipped]
Innoculation details
contract
Write up on the pups routine
then the fun bits
Personalised blankets
toy from puppy pen and new toy
puppy pack from food company(fish4dogs)
Info and suggest books on BARF
An alternative food sample from another company I like and money off coupon
Chew
Poo bags and cute little holder
I decided against collar and lead as new owners IMHO prefer to get there own
bag of treats,travel drink container
To hold all the goodies I bough blue and pink cool bags from poundland.Padded with a handle and strong. However I did toy with the idea of large plastic conyainers,as they can be uased for food storage. However I did have over 2 years to prepare!!!!

Thank you both.  Cloth bags and cool bags are a great idea.  I knew someone would have a brill idea.
Cant believe how small the list for puppy packs starts off and then grows and grows as we think of more things to include.
We are really pleased as all of our chosen KC first choice names were accepted.
Just preparing myself now for when they have to leave us - only a couple of weeks to go!!!
Many thanks

I included pretty much all of the above and got some ring binders for all of the documents which i placed into clear plastic wallet things. (i'm sure you know what i mean) and The Dogs Bill of Rights. Makes me fill up every time i read it. I modified mine a little though.

"I have the right to give and receive unconditional love.

I have the right to a life that is beyond mere survival.

I have the right to be trained so that I do not become the prisoner of my misbehavior.

I have the right to adequate food and medical care.

I have the right to fresh air and green grass.

I have the right to socialize with people and dogs outside my own family.

I have the right to special time with my people.

I have the right to be bred responsibly if at all.

I have the right to be foolish and silly, and to make my person laugh.

I have the right to earn my person's trust and to be trusted in return.

I have the right to be forgiven.

I have the right to die with dignity.

I have the right to be remembered well."

My packs were in colour co ordinated folders with the kennel names on the front , I bought all pups a fabric tote bag in the colour of the pups identification wool with our embroidered affix on - this is where we kept all the goodies which included :
Toy - new and from pen
Medal ( we had medals made with our affix on from America- they are fab!)
Organza bags with the very first wool collars they worse included
pirate charms - we love all things pirate and all kennel names had a pirate theme
We took colour co ordinated paw prints in paint from 4 weeks and 8 weeks and included them - fab to see the change in size!
family tree picture card with pics of litter mates and parents
history of our kennel
list of 'what is in the price of your puppy'
all health tests explained and copies of all the tests etc
poems,jokes
a colour co ordinated memory stick which clipped on the front of each folder with pics of each individual pup from birth onwards

Puppy packs have been done to the hilt ... a search on CD will bring up tons of info. As to what do you put pup packs into? Well, I shove all my stuff into a large Morrisons reusable bag :D  Practical always!

The main thing to remember about puppy packs is ... who exactly are they for? Your satisfaction or the puppy owner's benefit?!
