After two very bad experiences with one bitch who got such severe diarrhoea she lost far too much weight and I feared she'd even die, due to being fed puppy food instead of her normal food, and another who also got severe diarrhoea due to being given milk, I no longer give any special food to my bitches. They get what they are used to, to avoid stomach upsets, they just get many more meals of it. (6 meals a day or so.) The one extra thing I add is chicken wings but then they are used to raw meat anyway.

I continue with the RC Reproduction Starter till the dam is back to pre pregnancy condition, the pups are weaned onto the same till 8 weeks old.

Whilst she is still feeding the pups she gets goats milk, yogurt and cottage cheese to keep her calcium levels up to prevent her getting eclampsia.

Breeders will all have their own ways of doing things, this is what was advised by my mentor and has worked for me.

It always surprises me that people change thier dogs diet during and after pregnancy. A recipe for disaster in my mind. my girls are raw fed and get the same diet throughout and after whelping and pregnacy but more of it. They may get a little more of some things like  fresh fish, more lean meat and some cottage cheese but on the whole thier diet stays the same and in that way we avoid upset tums.
Get her back as soon as possible onto the food she is used to as she needs to be eating a good wholesome diet and as the pups take more milk she will need lots of small meals to keep her producing the milk.

My girl has recently had puppies. She is Barf fed,but has goats milk and raw egg daily. She also has alittle fish4dogs as a top up as she considers this a treat. No loose stools and she is looking great. The only thing she refuses to eat is chicken wings,I have to watch er as she is stuffing them down the back of the sofa!!

I fed the puppy version of my girl's normal food, more of it, more often, and supplemented with some mince / chicken / egg meals, but she is a walking hoover that will eat anything!

I dont give my girls more of what they usually have, I give them more of what they have had in pregnancy.

That way I will already know if anything upsets them and can alter accordingly.

Mine is on her usual plus more egg - meat - cheese....stands to reason.... the milk they are making is mainly protein and water so give more of that.
