Hi everyone. I have 4 dogs 3 adults and 7mth old baby girl. Weve had her since she was 8wk old. My problem is she is still pooing in her crate everynight, when she was 5 mth old we thought we had cracked it,she went 5 wk without anything and when i got up in the morning 5am, she knew her and the others all go out to do there buisness then they all play while i get my coffee an wake up ! But she has started again in the last 5 wks she will poo 2/3 times during night ( she is let out for last wees, poos at midnight ) so we tried to restrict her space in the crate, ahe still did it, even goin to sleep on it ! They are all fed 1 aday at 1:30pm, lilly has no treats at the moment, we give the others theres when she is not around. But her behaviour now is affecting the others ! 2 of my other dogs (who i have never had problems with, we always say if they did have an accident they would b ill no other reason. But they r now leaving me presents not everyday like lilly but 2/3times a week. I really do not know what to do now, so hopefully someone can help me solve this 1, airfreshner is soo expensive at the moment! LoL . Thanks again.

I'm not sure what you can do about Lily pooing at night; where is her crate situated? Is it close enough for you to hear her waking up? If not you might consider moving it closer to you (or you sleeping closer to her!) Then when she wakes - and you wake - you can take her out. It seems that it's become a habit, so you might want to remove her crate and have her in a larger, yet confined, area so that she can get away from her sleeping area when she needs to poo - that will at least stop her sleeping in it!
What are you feeding her?
Also just pointing out that at only 7 months old she's really too young to only be on one meal a day; dogs usually need two meals a day until about a year old.

It may help to know what breed this bitch is but generally it could be she's due in season. Has anything changed in the house, have you changed the food? I agree with JG that she should be fed twice a day (IMO so should the others) My 6 month old BT pup is only just getting the hang of things. Is she actually doing wee's and poo's at the last toilet break ? i know i have to really watch my lot to make sure they "go" and are not just playing about. I always say, if the dogs have an accident in the house its OUR fault.
Lilly is usually on 2 meals but we put her down to 1 in the last 2 wks to see if it made a difference. But as you can see its not done a blind bit od difference so is back on her "breakfast". The other 3 also have " breakfast". Lilly is best buddys with 1 of the others, im wondering if shes doing it cause she wants to b with her buddy, and i would love to put them together but they end up play fighting and dont know when to stop. Could this be the reason.

As another postee has said & I would go further to say, that it is much better on a dogs stomach to feed the meal in 2 feeds. My 6 month old pup is still on 4 meals a day & my adults are mostly on 2, with an oldie on 3.
I always make sure that the dogs are let out last thing before I go to bed & I would let out the adults separate to your puppy, so she is not distracted as to what she needs to be doing. You may well be doing this but if we mention all possibilities, it may help you to eliminate/add to your regime.
Had it been winter I would have asked if she is warm enough but that is not neccesary in the heat we are having at the moment..lol. Is she weeing in cage too or just messing?
It does seem a little odd that she cant go 5 hours at night, which is much less than most dogs are 'asleep' for.
My pup and a 5 year old of mine are caged at night(separately) so I know that it's not why your pup is like it(or shouldn't be)..lol

I know what you mean about the nighttime carry-on!! My two youngest thought it was great fun to have a wrestle in the middle of the night with plenty of noise!! I stopped this by tiring them both out before bed. The older of the 2 can get loads of exercise so she does which calms her down. I find that she then won't 'bite' when he tries to instigate her into playing. I also make sure everyone has their dinner before 7pm and last 'out' is usually about 11ish. My lot sleep in a pile in the kitchen. The only time we have had any accidents was when I over-did the liver! I think this sounds like either habit or separation. I would tire her out and make sure she goes for a last toilet and leave her out to see how she goes. I hate the thought of her sleeping in it!!
Hiya everyone. Thanks for the advice so far very much appreciated. Im going to try lilly an poppy together again tonight, lilly can go longer than 5 hrs for toilet it seems she just chooses not to. My husband lets them out last thing and he does let them out all together so that might be an issue, also my son has just "grassed" his dad up, that dad has been giving them all treats when they are all settled for bed ! ! Is this the answer to lillys problem ! Hmm i will investigate and interigate hubby when he gets home from work and has been fed and watered ! ! LOL,

i wouldnt be to hard on hubby, mine always have a bed time biscuit. i think the problem is more that he doesnt (he's a man lets face it lol) watch and make sure she has been to the toilet, we have a pot of the small coachies treats by the back door and when Merlin has performed he is told he's a good boy and waits for his treat lol. Our neighbour lets the dogs out during the day for us and she commented how the other day he came whizzing in from the garden for no apparent reason, when i said did you happen to say "good boy" she said yes so i explained and she laughed.
Incense sticks and zoflora are very good for clearing nasty wiffs ;-)
Hiya everyone. Well its 5:20am. Slept dowstairs last night, all was very quiet untill 2:30am, and as predicted heard "a party coming from the kitchen".!, went in and yep our poppy on her back and our lilly with poppys leg in her mouth, it was a very funny site especially when they saw me, they froze in the position above, lol, no presents from anyone at that time so let them all out individually then tried again ! 3:15 heard the party continuing so decided to seperate the girls but moved lillys crate next to each other, tried to sleep.5 am went in to start there day and yep lilly left me a present and also poppy ! Ignored both (i could feel there eyes on my back ) lol. Cleaned them up let them out, lilly ran to her spot ( and did 1&2) praised her, and now all 4 in with me as i wright this fast asleep ! An idea, set video camera up and try to catch if theres a patten, time wise, if so get up and let her out ? Thanks a very tired jenny. Xx
> time wise, if so get up and let her out ?
i think the answer is yes unfortunately. i'm not good without sleep so i know how you feel. What about trying a blanket over the crates ?
Easy, although it takes 24-36 hours to digest depending on food type etc agenral rule of thumb is that 12 hours post feeding your dog will need the loo!! So switch all the dogs feeding times to morning and evening as 1 big meal is not good for digestion and certainly not for large breed dogs re gastric torsions. I feed about 7.30 -8 inthe morningand evening feedis about half 6. Never feed for hour either side of exercise( gastric torsion) and make sure you are supervising the evening from 7-10pmand take her out every hour to "perform".
I would also advise a change of diet as that sounds like waaaaaayyyyyy to many poops fordogs fed once daily, so food amy not be suitable either. I feed twice daily and would expect 3 times a day tops, twice is more normal. If your foodis full of maize its cheap bulker and makes more poop and wind than rice based products.
I have 4 dogs varying in age from 11years to just turned 12months,works for me usually get pups toilet trained inside of 2weeks in the house and crates takes lesstime. One ofmine was clean after 4 days both overnight and in the house, but he was unusual.
It also goes back to the breeder, if the pups weren't kept clean enough then it gets passed on, that your pup will lie in it suggests to me that the breeder wasn't perhaps clean enough.
Right happyhound im gonna try your routine starting tomorrow (going for weekly shop so will buy different food ) ive also never had aproblem with my other 3 , they where great with picking up the toilet training in house and outside and crate wise, i think thats why i was a bit lost with lilly, any ideas about why my other 2 are pooing ? Is it because they see lilly do it ? My oldest female daisy is the leader and very dominent, and out of them all im very shocked to see her doing her buisness.
> going for weekly shop so will buy different food
from this i', guessing you buy your dog food from the supermarket. could be worth looking in the feeding section of this site as most decent foods arent available in the supermarket with the exception of harringtons which i think is an ok food (although not fed it myself). Have you spoken to Lilly's breeder ? maybe others are having a similar problem ? hope you get to the bottom of this.

I never clean up in front of the dogs,if it's attention they are seeking then they are getting it seeing you cleaning up.

Never heard of that one before :-) How do you deal with it then? If you put the dogs out prior to clearing up does that not amount to giving them attention or do you leave it until the dogs have left the area of their own free accord? Confused on this one :-)

I put the dogs out watch them do their business and leave them out till I have cleaned up and then let them in again to fresh bedding etc.

maybe she is toileting in the crate as it now has 'the smell' because she has done it so many times ,you could try putting in a new plastic bottom in the crate so that it smells new. No matter how many times you clean it the smell will be there for a dog.
I would also consider changing the food some foods produce less poo so a good quality dry rather than wet. I feed arden grange but you do have to go on line mainly to purchase and get a good price and I realise you probably know to change it over a period of a week or so .
what food are you feeding??
Probably a case of monkey see, monkey do, with the other dogs. Got 8 dogs in the house at the mo and all toilet training is good but it can simply take a few accidents from a younger dog to upset the balance. That said my oldest (4) male dog peed on the indoor gate last week!! He's not done it since so he may have been marking even though he's neutered, dogs will be dogs regardless.
I apologise for my AWFUL typing skills, after reading my posts I'm surprised anyone can understand them. My mind is faster than my hands!!
