It will now be known as the Assured Breeder Scheme:

I suppose it makes more sense? But the rebranding is going to cost quite a bit:-(

What a waste of money - on a flawed scheme too !

Interestingly that attitude used to be quite common but perhaps now out of step as a great many reputable breeders, previously sceptical, appear to be now signing up.
I am sure they would not be taking the plunge on the expense of rebranding if they did not consider it of value to do so.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the report from the Advisory Council on the welfare issues of dog breeding and their proposal to start their own breeders scheme?

I agree with you again Stooge!

They have no choice if they want to keep their 'gold standard' monopoly on the dog world in the UK.

There are hoops they have to jump through to keep control of dog breeding or do nothing and watch legislation take it from their hands and put squarely into those of an agency like DEFRA.

Those who are so critical of The KC's ABS would be begging for them to have it reinstated after a year or so of the dreaded DEFRA .....who would take dog breeding entirely out of hobbyists and give to commercial ( NVQ trained :-( ) concerns.

Oh, I hear the echos of so many past discussions on Champdogs :) :)
Actually I am not averse to the NVQ idea.  It's something the public can understand and I don't see it as inappropriate in the modern world and the modern scheme which demands an understanding of many areas such as hygiene, fire safety etc.

Indeedy!

It sometimes feels like Groundhog day.

Have you read the book 'Before I go to sleep' ? Excellent book BTW.

The cost of what?  The rebranding?  I don't think they are under any obligation to publish their accounts as a private club are they?

sorry im not feeling to well at the mo ,what i should of said was, what will the cost be to breeders wonder if it will still be the same as when joining the accredited breeder scheme or are they going to bump it up alot more x.

The KC had to change the name if they wanted UKAS Accreditation. UKAS does not allow anything they give accreditation to to have the word 'Accredited' in.
