Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Wishful thinking?

So our girl ovulated 63 days ago and we had one slip mating 4 days later.  She was scanned at 35 days (from ovulation) and found no puppies :-(  Not a great surprise but still very disappointing.  Very experienced scanner using powerful equipment, and had a good rummage around so not really any doubt.  She had been showing some mild signs such as being off her breakfast, being slightly clingier than usual, and having a bit of a bulging tum.  Her appetite returned once she'd been 'found out'.

Her bulging  tummy has continued, although it is bulging downwards rather than outwards or broadening behind the ribs.  She does have milk.  She has had mild phantoms on her last 2 seasons but she has more breast tissue development (but not nipples) this time and quite a bit more milk (May account for the bulging tum).  She likes lying on her back and exposing her undercarriage for inspection!  She is also very fussy with her breakfast again.  She has had no increase in appetite at all, if anything it's decreased through fussiness but no weight loss.  She does seem a little quiet (but that could be my imagination).

I keep hearing about these scan evading singleton puppies, at least 3 in my breed (large breed) and they are known to carry pups high.  My older girl's breeder had 2 single pup litters with the same bitch (my older girls sister), one of which resulted in a lost puppy as the vets insisted on waiting.  The other happily was alive and well but managed to evade the scanner even at FULL TERM!!

Since the negative scan she has been treated entirely normally, going to a show, normal walks, swimming etc.

I know I'm probably just clutching at straws as we are so desperate for puppies with her, but I just don't want to ignore any signs and the possibility, no matter how slight, that she may just have one hiding somewhere.  I know about the problems with inertia and single puppy births and that scares me.

Hubby and I both work so she is on her own with the other dogs for 4-5 hours a day this week which is making me a little nervous.  All the leave we had planned for puppies has been cancelled.

Anyone got any pearls of wisdom to offer about what, if anything, I should be doing?   I'm thinking maybe just a little trip to see the vet just for a once-over, or shall I not over-react?
Is it just wishful thinking?

do you think your still wishful thinking? or is your gut feeling telling you? if it was me id go and get a xray this way a pup will show ,and if you get your girl to the vets just to be falt thr vet might miss just 1 or 2 pups they could still be up in her ribs and not come down till she she starts to whelp, if their is any xx let us kinow what happends!

If you cant see it I doubt a vet will.
So I would arrange to make sure shes separated from the others when youre not actually with her...better safe than sorry.

Might be worth taking her in now for another scan or perhaps an xray just to be on the safe side.  It 'could' be a really convincing phantom, but on the off-chance there's a pup in there it would be devastating to miss it.

Gut feelings are often important. My experience was the opposite.Scanned at 28 days - showed 3 pups at least.By the time she was 7 weeks doubt started to creep in.Despite breast tissue development, milk, clingy etc ,I just felt she wasn't.Body shape hadn't really changed.By 8 weeks no movement, even though she was happy to stay in the whelping box.By 63 days I presumed she had reabsorbed, vet wasn't sure,so treated her as not pregnant.
