Hi my large breed Gundog is day 49 today, she has always been a fussy eater and I hoped that whilst she was pregnant her appetite would increase and indeed at around days 35-45 it did. Now however she is eating very little, and what she is taking I am having to spoon feed to her.
The thing is as she has stopped eating she seems to have decreased in size, where she was quite large at 5-6 weeks, now at 7 weeks she seems a lot smaller in girth. It is difficult not to fuss over her, but should I be worried?
hi, I would be thinking about a vet visit and a scan. It is possible for them to reabsorb puppies (though I don't know at what stage?) and if her appetite is gone too I would want to check for any infection too. How is she in her self generally? is she lively and alert? Any discharge?

sorry not to be more positive but better safe than sorry!
good luck, let us know how it goes.
pups can reabsurb upto 7 weeks, i say the same get her scanned to see whats happening .all the best but what ever you decide please let us know the outcome x
I have a bitch here that has reabsorbed 2 litters at about the 7 weeks mark, so please go and get it checked by your vet. I have had my bitch spayed now so there is no chance of her getting pyo, which was my biggest worry after reabsorbing, and having infrequent seasons.

I've had similar with a bitch at 6 wks so vet suggested canine herpies vacine after the 2nd one which we will be doing next wk, first was put down to sire's age 15 1/2 . Fingers crossed for you on all fronts, my litter of four in a small breed took about 3 days to have her back to normal size was very efficient process and seemed to have no effect on my girl ------ just us!

One of my girls was scanned at 5 weeks, live pups seen, day 49 she looked smaller, so back to the vet who said no heart beats could be found :-( 3 days later she aborted 5 mummified pups, she went on to have a healthy litter of 8 the following year, no vaccines or AB's.

My girl reabsorbed at 7 weeks.
15 1/2 year old sire - gosh.
Mine between5 to 6 weeks.
Good luck, hope all is OK.

I wouldn't think its got anything to do with her eating. One of my bitches goes on near hunger strike when pregnant and has produced good sized pups. Pups will get what they need. I would also be thinking about reabsorbtion if her abdomen is defiantely getting smaller. Seven weeks onwards is when they really start to get large. Get a scan and find out whats going on.
