Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Rejection of xrays for hipscoring
- By DarkStorm [gb] Date 28.07.11 10:55 UTC
A friend of mine had her dog (Border Collie) xrayed on the same day as mine, his results have come back today as rejected and he's got to be redone. Has anyone had this happen and have any idea why it does? She's not been given a reason and is beside herself. She did write the wrong date on the form, corrected it and initialed the change and is wondering if that's the cause but I can't imagine the BVA would insist a dog was put under another GA just because of an error on a form! The vet is an experienced one who has never had this happen before and is bewildered by it. I said I'd ask for her on here as there were so many experienced breeders who hopefully can help.

Where do you live. Why not have it done under sedation. You could use Marylyn Baker at Southampton they would not reject hers. She is in Beardies also a radiologist so knows what she is doing.

Think it likely to be the plates that are at fault, would try and find out if this is the case and the vet should then redo them free of charge.

These days it's best to get digital xray and to send on a disc instead of a printed copy, something may have happened to mean it wasn't possible to score the dog - but they should say what was wrong to prevent it happening again.  My vet sedates rather than GA.

The vets are going digital on Wednesday so he's going to be scored again on Friday, and she wont have to pay again. I dont think sedation of GA is relevent to the result here. She's spoken to the vet again, who is off for a few days (but still let us know the results, love her) but she's going in to get the paperwork so she can find out exactly what's happened. Do feel sorry for my friend though, waiting the first time was bad enough.

We Had Dems hip scored 4 years ago,the first x ray was rejected and returned due to unclear images. The vet re xrayed,at no cost.I was more upset that Dems had to under go another GA.The next X rays were fine and came back within breed mean score.I put it down to the vets skill as I have numerous issues with this vet.The whole process took about 3 months.

Mystery solved..it was the post offices fault! The xrays were in such a mess they were illegible by the time they arrived at their destination. How annoying!

So who will pay for the dog to be re xrayed?

Digital is so much better as the dog wouldn't have had to have been done again - just a new set sent off (and easier on disc).  I mentioned sedation as an alternative to GA as it was mentioned the poor dog would go through GA twice :-(

I don't know Jude, I think its the vets.

Unfortunately no one in the far south west Hip x rays under sedation - Southampton I am guessing is the closest. However with 2 of my dogs due to have their hips scored, and losing a CED under a GA,this is something I an seriously considering next time around.

Can anyone recommend anywhere in London/South Essex/East Herts/North Kent for digital x-rays, and preferably sedation rather than GA.
Thanks.

From my experience Digital are not accepted for scoring, our surgery uses digital but have to change back for submission.  We had our last lot done in 10 so not that long ago I'd certainly check before the new plates are submitted.

There is a vets in Surrey who are now doing xrays under sedation and from those who've had them done there they are very pleased and a competetive price compared to Marilyn down in S'hants.

We send our x rays to Germany for A stamp, one time ours were rejected in Germany because the plates wernt correct, this is likely the cause, the vet re xrayed foc, he always uses sedation.
Good luck

Digital are now the preferred submission media - via a disc. They were in the dark ages, but my vets, plus others probably made a 'strong suggestion' so now it's all done via disc and so much better - no more trying to get a good print!
