I didn´t realise until this afternoon just how good my boy (aged 6) is. I had the plumber round and he left the drive gates open for easy access to and from his van for a couple of hours so my dog could easily have gone outside. Not only did little Sunny not go out, but in an attempt to get the plumber to play with him he´d dropped his ball on the drive, watched it roll down into the gutter outside - and he didn´t even go out to get it. I only saw it when I went looking around the garden for it. I´m so pleased with him. He has learnt he is not allowed on the drive, or outside the gates, and even when he´s not being watched he is sticking to the rules.

Awww what a good boy Sunny, lots of treats for the lad!
I am always proud of my babies when they dont run out of open doors or gates or when they come when called, as I have a breed which are surposed to be major escape artists (Huskies). I know others in the breed who very much live up to the standard and spend all their time just looking for an out, but my two seem to know which side their breads buttered and (touch wood) have so far been very well behaved! Not that I purposely leave things open, I know my breed and am careful as I love them so much, but people do open doors and gates but they just continue to be happy to see the incoming person rather than looking past them for an escape! :)
Until last year, when I had 2 dogs, if I went out Sunny would find ways of getting into the drive and would then wriggle under the gates to get outside. More than once a neighbour would push him back under the gate despite my best efforts to keep him contained safely in the garden. Now he is an only dog he has changed so much I´m really amazed - but so pleased with him after yesterday.
We are being decorated in the office so the gates are down both dogs are great. I lost Whistler and frantically started looking, he was downstairs with the work man (office is 1st floor) tucking into a pasty!!! then he came back under my desk. (he has been bought up with our workman since 8 weks old so they know him and love him lots.)
Now to go with the yellow emulsion he has a bit of white gloss.
BUT, he has made no attempt to leave the building will all doors left open. He's 4 now and the BC has not moved all day pasty or no pasty, how they can smell it over the paint and varnish I have no idea.

honeymoonbean, you are lucky he wasnt run over by a car! i would never allow a workman to leave gates open! i only have workmen in when im there to suppervise
Tina, I knew Sunny wouldn´t run out of the gates whilst the plumber was working in the front (which he was) and I was around inside and outside, but I hadn´t bargained for him throwing his ball onto the drive knowing it would run downhill and out through the gates. He´s very ball orientated. That´s why I was so pleased he didn´t go out after the ball. It´s very difficult when workmen come because they are always wanting to go in and out all the time but in future I´ll have to put the other gate up for safety.
