Do points count for Best Puppy at club open shows?? or are points only taken from group open shows and champ shows?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 24.07.11 19:53 UTC
Club shows count, as without them I'd never have got the Open show points.
- By Boody Date 24.07.11 19:54 UTC
Phew thats good else quite a few points would of been lost.
- By valhav [gb] Date 25.07.11 12:43 UTC
No points are awarded for best puppy, points are gained from classes with 3 or more shown or best of breed (if no points gained in classes), breed open show or general open show as far as I understand.  I'm sure someone will rectify if I'm wrong.
- By Boody Date 25.07.11 12:55 UTC
I read from January this year you can claim one point from best puppy if no point from the class.
- By Chef55 Date 25.07.11 20:16 UTC
I am assuming that there still has to have been at least 3  present in the puppy's class? Well that is how I read it.
- By Reikiangel [gb] Date 26.07.11 07:37 UTC
If you are in a higher age class you can count the numbers from the correct class.  Can't remember f you also count the class you're present in.

I like the pont from best puppy, will have a look at that.

As far as I know there is no point won for best puppy. Unless they have changed the wording on the form since late last year it is still only a point from BOB if you did not get the point from the class.

Look here from the KC site :-
*You must have 25 points in total.
*3 points are awarded from each championship show win.
*1 point is awarded for every Open Show win, or a Championship Show where CC's were not on offer for the breed.
*You can only claim points if you are placed 1st in a Breed Class, such as Puppy, Graduate, Limit, Open etc.  Please note that Best Puppy, Any Variety and Any Variety Not Separately Classified classes do not count.
*The dog must be between 6 and 18 months of age when claiming points.
*A minimum of 3 points must be from Championship Shows
*A minimum of 3 points must be from Open Shows
*JW points cannot be claimed if there are less then 3 dogs present in the class.
*You can claim one point for Best of Breed at an Open Show, but only if you were not able to claim a point for a 1st prize in a breed class and only where there are three or more dogs present in the breed
*You can claim points for 'Special' Breed Classes i.e. Special Beginners, Special Yearling provided these classes are listed under the breed classification and the relevant number of dogs are present
*You can claim points for 'Stakes' classes at a Single Breed show provided the relevant number of dogs are present

4 One point for the award of Best Puppy in Breed at an Open Show (effective from 1st January 2011).
Only to be claimed if no qualifying Junior Warrant points were gained by that dog by winning a
Breed Class or Classes at that show and only to be claimed if the dog awarded Best Opposite Sex
Puppy has also gained one or more points having won a Breed Class or Classes at that show.

you can now win a point for best puupy in breed only if there was not enough in the class

But does this mean if there is no puppy class and you go into junior and there is only 2 in the class and the class is won by a dog out of puppy you then go onto win best puppy in breed even if you dont win the class but bpib do you still pick up a point?
- By Merlot [gb] Date 26.07.11 12:44 UTC Edited 26.07.11 12:51 UTC
Not heard that and I couldn't see it on the KC web site.
Aileen

Just had another good look and you can win a point for BPIB as long as the reserve BPIB had won a point in it's class. So if it did not get the point as there were less than 3 in the class you cannot get a point for BPIB.
ie. Class Puppy D/B. Pup A won with 3 in class then met pup B who came 2nd in Junior but was not in Puppy class, they run off for BPIB and pup B wins it can claim the point. If pup A won Puppy class with 2 in class then Pup B cannot claim the point for BPIB.
Clear as mud !!!! ;-)

So what happens if there is only 1 pup entered into the breed and they are given BPIB, yet there are more then 3 entered into the breed in total im other classes does that mean a point or no points with this new system?
- By Merlot [gb] Date 26.07.11 13:12 UTC
If you win BOB and there are 3 or more entered (Total of all classes) then a point is awarded. If you win BPIB with less than 3 no point. You can iether get a point from your class if 3 are entered or, a point from BPIB if you beat a pup who has already won a point in the breed class.
- By Blue Date 26.07.11 23:45 UTC
Plain a simple reading in amongst it all , even with the rule changes you MUST beat 2 dogs either in the class with you or by beating them all for BOB either way you must beat 2 dogs in your breed.
- By Susiebell [gb] Date 19.08.11 08:36 UTC
I'm very confused - easily done

Am i right in thinking you must beat 2 dogs minimum to be able to claim your points?

So in my scenario I am at a championship show and only 2 pups in puppy bitch - my girl wins.  (so she can't claim her 3 points for her win)
2 pups in puppy dog as well.

Then my girl wins BPIB

She has technically beaten 3 other dogs so does she get a point that she can use towards her junior warrant?
- By rachelsetters Date 19.08.11 08:56 UTC
No points for Best Puppy sadly.  There must be a minimum of 3 present in the 'class'.

Susiebell

In your scenario IF the puppy dog had won from a class of 3 (ie he gets his points) then you could have claimed your JW points for beating him to BPIB.

This happened to me in reverse earlier this year - I checked it with the KC awards dept.

> She has technically beaten 3 other dogs so does she get a point that she can use towards her junior warrant?

Sorry meant to reply to this bit too.  No it doesn't count - it's only wins in the class that count (BP is the exception)

My boy got BPIB at Bath but like you only 2 dogs in the dog and bitch classes - no points.  He also got Best Dog beating all the other class winners but sadly no points - I checked!! :(

That only applies to open shows not champs. http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/download/1752/jwform.pdf

6 Only one point can be claimed where a dog has been declared both Best Puppy in Breed and Best
of Breed.

When I sent my emails to the KC Awards Dept I explained these were Champ Shows (but no CC's) and I was told I could claim the points (exactly same scenario as XX describes).  Maybe no CC's changes it to an Open Show...?

> Maybe no CC's changes it to an Open Show...?

Yes that is so, No CC's counts as an Open show.
