hia, as you know I have little Ottawa, well need some help again, Yes from the helpful peeps on here who give some good general advice on non medical matters. Well little Ottawa has decided to start nipping and biting us.. I know he is teething at the mo & we have given him little teething toys to nibble on but he still insists on using our hands, arms & even trying to nip our legs in our dressing gowns (little smugga!) the main worry is my 9 yr old daughter, he tries to use her as a chew toy... I know it must be painful but we dont want him to get into the habit of biting especially since he is a GSD & it can get out of hand if not treat early enough :( . We would appreciate any experience with detering 11 week old pups from biting the household!. we are doing everything poss at mo to learn him the concept of not been aplha in the family ( I have that role!!! so my hubby says ! :) ) anyways any help would be gratefully appreciated.
P.S. I love this site as it is so informational with advice from all different corners ! Keep up the good work :)

Hi, with my pups what i did was hold the bottom jaw with my thumb, that way they can not bite or do anything as you have hold of there jaw, hold it for a couple of seconds and say no firm, then let go if pup does it again you do it again that way the pup will stop. when ever i see one of the pups now, they never nip me, but do with some of there owners as they have not listened to my advice. some have and they have no problems with nipping.
It does work. What doesnt is a smack round the mouth, dogs dont need that.
good luck debbie

You may want to try having your daughter spray her hands with Bitter Apple (it's very safe, all-natural stuff, and dogs despise the taste of it). Although she can't walk around with it on her hands all the time, there's a good chance that after the pup takes one or two nibbles at her hands, and finds out that they taste horrible, he'll be less likely to go for her hands.
