I had an infection little over 2 years ago that took few months to clear. Since then when I'm under the weather I seem to get sinus ache and issues too but it has not been too bad and has always cleared without medicines once the cold goes.

Now I have had issues most of the year starting with a cold/flu that left me with cough for over a month and not been 100% since then really...
Recent issues started beginning of June and have now been on antibiotics for 4 weeks (and 1 course before that, with few weeks without).
After 4 weeks am now having issues with my stomach too, I'm really starting to feel down about it all :(.

It is mainly one side and is making the whole face on that side hurt, as well as my teeth on that side and my neck is killing me too.
I think some stuff is draining down my throat which makes me want to swallow all the time and makes me gag too :(...
It was also making me very dizzy but that seems to have stopped now after the antibiotics.

We are living in a house that has a damp problem but that has been much better since the warmer weather, i'm sure it is not helping the matter but we are stuck here till we find a another property(which is not easy with 3 giant dogs!).

I have finally been referred to a specialist but thought somebody might have some tips on what I can do to help myself as it seems sinuses can become quite an issue after you start having problems with them?

Sounds like you have a deep seated infection which the antibiotics are not totally clearing up, you may need a washout to get rid of the pus and a sample will be cultured to find the right antibiotics to clear it up once and for all.

Taking Garlic Oil capsules will boost your immune system, I used to pick up lots of chest infections from my patients but not since taking the Garlic Oil, I increase the dose in the winter.

Has the Dr mentioned inhalations to help open up your sinuses  and allow them to drain easier.

Hope you get relief soon.

What medication are you on?

More to help with clearing out than fighting an infection as such but I find neti pots very useful.  Just miux up some saline solution (you can buy purified salt specifically for them, although I've used normal) and gently tip in one nostril and out the other, then swap.  Can take a bit of getting used to though!

I'm using nosespray Beconase and the antibiotics are called Co-Amoxiclav...
I am "rinsing" my nose too and that seems to do some good but I'm not sure my technique is the most effective.

Not taken the antibiotics for 5 days now and it has got worse it was when I was taking them but no where as bad as it used to be.
Just can't take the antibiotics as it really was messing my stomach up and making me feel sick (heartburn kind of thing&making my stomach hurt and feel bruised all the time).

Garlic sounds like a good idea but not sure about it at the moment as my stomach really is not very well after the antibiotics :(

Used to use 'antifect' a herbal thing, it was really good at keeping the sinuses sorted.
Touch wood ahve not had any problems the last couple of years.............at least not sinuses............

THere is a really bad sinus/chesty cough virus going around at the moment.  I've had it two weeks and Jenny with the SWD's has had it a month!

Have ou tried antihistamines?

An old doctor recommended  me to use a hot water bottle on my face, and yes it does help ease the discomfort.I suffered a lot of sinus trouble, until we moved from our damp house.Steam inhalations with karvol or olbas oil, will also help give you temporary relief.Hope you feel better soon,it can be so prolonged, and it becomes  such a depressing condition.

You could try a course of probiotic acidophilus, always a good idea when on antibiotics.

I suspect your infection has gone too far, but when I was in a chemist recently the pharmacist recommended nasal strips for a kid that was always bunged up.

Ask your doctor to change your antibiotics if they are making you feel ill. They will find another type which you will be able to tolerate . Have they also considered testing you for a fungal infection ?

Is your house rented as if you gave a damp problem then the landlord has to get it sorted. Get the council to come and inspect the house and take samples of the damp and mould as some type of spores are very dangerous. We lived in our house for about 9 months whilst we had burst under floor pipes in various places in the house including our bedroom. It caused my husbands asthma to reappear after almost 30 years. We battled with the insurers to move us out and it took a final threat of taking legal action to make them agree to it. Once the house was cleared and floors taken up he extent of the mould was quite incredible.

We had to have all the floors and walls stripped back to get rid of any trace of the damp and mould. Ten months later we moved back in.

In the hospital we have stopped using CoAmoxiclav[Augmentin] due to it's connection with MRSA being contracted by patients taking it.

The thing with antibiotics is that you may feel better whilst taking them because they dampen down the symtoms but if they are not the right ones then when they stop things flare up again very quickly.

Next time you get antibiotics tell the Dr how they make you feel and they can give you something to stop the nausea/heartburn or give antibiotics from a different group.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Poor you :(

Sounds like you really need to see that specialist ;)  sometimes you can ring the secretary and get a cancellation if you are able to take a short notice appointment.  I've done this for myself and the children and it can really cut the waiting time.

Hope it gets sorted soon

Just a little update.
I have seen the specialist and been given 3 month course of a nose spray, no "internal antibiotics" as he feels they often just help whilst taking them and problem returns when you stop (would have not had to tell me that one!).
The nose spray seems to be helping a little, I'm not pain free but definitely feel better than I did whilst taking the other antibiotic...
I have to keep doing the nosespray and if not painfree in two weeks go back for CT scan.

This really is very depressing condition as it's not just sinuses that hurt :( it's teeth, neck, face, head... and now my tummy too thanks to the antibiotics :(
I actually find the other related pains million times worse than the pain where the sinuses are, it all just totally drains you!

The landlord is doing nothing about the damp, been fighting them for 10 months now but gave up as nothing was done and it was making me so stressed and it is really depressing to keep going on and get nothing.
I have been told by the neighbours previous tenants left because of similar issues so the landlord obviously is aware and just don't care.

So been trying to focus the energy I have in finding a another house :).
Which again is pretty depressing task alone as 99% of the houses in the area will not accept pets so not joking, I have made probably near 100 calls and always get told no pets...
