A little 'cheeky' for my taste and the eye does detract especially in that dark mask....but its his upright shoulders ie front legs set too far forward rather than under his chest, which would peg back his show career I fear.
His short back and good strong hindquarters are good and he is well marked.
Those who appreciate the strong continental head type generally like a very well angulated front.
hereEvery one has their own opinion and many people only show under those who like their 'type'.

I don't know much about Boxers but just wanted to say that He look Supersonicly Gorgeous to My Un-Expert Eye.... :)
Toolz....on the link you put up....do some of those Boxers have cropped ears.....??? If so......it makes them look horrible...... and totally unnatural.... :(

Yes I know FOS but it was to show european/ continental type..ie shorter muzzle and over built fronts. unfortunately they are/were cropped in their countries. Not my preference either :-)

In the first picture he is leaning backwards which is what I think you are refaring to. I will put up better pictures if you wish, I can also get some of his natural stance.

Sure he is delightful but not typical of the dog seen in the show ring.

It is the first picture which shows his forward placed front assembly most clearly.

He is of more european breeding coming from Lynpine breeding. Would you be able to give a more detailed answer if you had better pictures?

I just noticed that Leon (my dog) shares some of her pedigree :)

For a continental type male he is medium sized, fawn in colour with evident musclature.
Head strong with rather shorter than ideal muzzle ( as per UK standard one third). Ears a little semi erect and cheeks rather full rather than clean.
Neck clean and strong leading into rather upright shoulders with short scapulae, giving the lack of evident forechest ( highly prized by those who prefer euro type).
Short level back with muscles evident. Tailset slightly under the topline.
Good bone, fair colour, well marked.
Cant assess mouth entirety and temperament obviously and with those upright shoulders I would expect short choppy movement with high head carriage.
It is tempting to give an estimate of how he would do in a class of male boxers but given the vagaries of 'type' judging and such low entries...who knows.
Continental judges would look at him more favourably than UK judges

Magic is a female and was, until Max came and beat her, the breed record holder. Shes still the bitch CC record holder.
My favourite colour too ...and such well laid shoulders.
what would your estimate be on how well he would do in a class, just out of curiosity?

Classes are small...judges are all different and it depends on the competition. Im not the biggest fan of the shortfaced overbuilt type so hard to say.
Im judging at a few locations throughout the country this year so you might bump into me inadvertantly :-)
Thank you for your input , he wasn't bought for showing or breeding just as a pet but as he grew up I have had ever increasing requests to use him as a stud - to all of which I declined because the bitches were of such poor quality even I could see and I did not want to be responsible for bringing such poor quality pups into the world.

Boxer Cardiomyopathy and Aortic Stenosis are the scourge of the breed. The former causes sudden death of otherwise fit-looking animals, its heartbreaking. AS causes fainting and can lead to death.
These conditions need to be screened for in both potential parents and anyone breeding without this information is irresponsible in the exteme.
Most casual enquirers will most certainly not have had tests for both these conditions and many will blisfully unaware. The law will not accept this as a defence however.
Keep your lovely boy as your much loved pet, show him at some of the smaller shows to see how he goes. Attitude and handling, coupled with a strikingly well marked masculine dog can get results.
Yes, I realise how the result of poorly bred dogs can have a fatal result, 3 months before buying Leon I bought Tyson - a poorly bred runt of the litter of only 2. I only saw his mother for a few minutes and never saw the sire.I made such a mistake , tyson died at the age of 5 months due to serious heart murmur. He had a horrible life and it was heart wrenching to watch him go through it. I would never want to put any dog or person through that.
Do you think it would be worth trying to show him at his age (3)? would his eye not be classed as a major fault?

Easy for me to say :-) but showing is not all about winning.
Going along, comparing him to the others and meeting like minded people has a lot to commend it.
It is a good day out. Just make sure he is used to the close proximity of others especially males and is willing to stand, be examined and move in a controlled trot.
Give it a go, nothing to lose.
Thank you , showing starts tomorrow :) literally there is a show on down the road from me that has a few classes that don't need and any entry forums , the are just for fun! I am looking into showing and maybe in the near future would like to purchase one , who knows?!

Good luck!
> Magic is a female
oops, what made me say his, LOL pretty easy to spot the sex in a boxer LOL

Start with some companion shows, you can just turn up on the day and meet some like minded people and have a fun day out. :-)

I'd like to add, see if you can find any KC rules Companion Shows (the average village fete show isn't!), the judges are usually breeders, sometimes proper show judges, and as Boxers are a popular breed you may well find a real Boxer expert is doing the pedigree classes (which are open to all, even unregistered dogs).
The KC Companion Show I was at last week had a Boxer breeder doing some of the classes; the organisers were show/breeding people (Samoyeds), and it was both a relief and a pleasure to have my elderly rescue recognised as the breed she is, and not assumed to be a GSD cross! :)
[Best Veteran by the way, and we are still smiling!]
Yes trying to find some companion shows in my area also taking up some handling classes too :)
Good luck with showing. Wouldn't surprise me if you started getting a new trainee as well :) once you start talking to others. I know nothing about Boxers but did like magic and your looks nice. Maybe try standing him different ways to see how he presents the best.
Have you got a ringcraft near to you, they can teach you for the show ring.
He won a rossette today and is in nexts week local paper :D going to take up ringcraft classes when they start in august :) pics are being emailed to me.

Congratulations! :-)
Thank you :) not bad for first ever go. Just wondering since im getting into it know what type and size show lead should i buy?

Well done!
You will find that most folk show boxers on chains or slip leads but you may want to wait until you get to ring craft for their advice.
I have a slip lead but I think it may be too thick, it is made for gundogs. Could I get a thinner one to use? Is there a particular colour that would suit him better?

I have two rolled leather slip leads made specially for me but most folk use thin chains.
I strongly advise that you go to some shows and watch boxers and their handlers. You can pick up so much and it will help you decide what style of handling you prefer, this will shape your choice of lead.
Some 'string' their dogs and others 'bait' them...for the latter the chain is laid low over the dogs withers and in the former up around the nape of the neck. Some examples
here several examples over a number of pages.
This entire wesite should be of considerable interest to you.

I've never had a boxer but that website was amazing, tooolz--if only all breeds had an equivalent

Those were my thoughts.

I found it fascinating as well, even with a minimal interest in Boxers!

Loved the boxer website especially the link to lameness & gait.
Well done and glad you enjoyed it.

50p !! :-)
I paid full price from the States when it first came out :-(
I love Frau Stockmanns book. Can be pricey for the originals, very collectable.

If you attend some shows with boxer classes you will see the leads that others use & will also see how people handle.
Where abouts do you live? There may be a championship show coming up that you could attend as a spectator and could speak to other boxer folk, you will find people at dog shows love nothing more than talking dog :)
Re. The unpigmented eye, it all comes down to the judge - some hate it, some can just about forgive it on a very good dog & some it doesn't bother one bit.
I have just made up my first champion and he has an unpigmented eye but he is an excellent dog (if I do say so myself he he he)
Most of all enjoy showing your dog, we all start some where and it's usually with our pet at a fun show and from there on we become hooked :)
Im in Northern Ireland :) Im going to see if there are any local shows to go to.
Ringcraft classes don't start until September so I have plenty of time yet :D

There are 2 UK championship shows held in September on 24th & 25th at the Kings Hall, Belfast.
24th is the Irish Boxer Dog Club, contact jamesgardiner103@btinternet.com for a schedule.
25th Belfast Dog Show:
http://belfastdogshowsociety.org/There are also many shows held in Dublin(under the Irish Kennel Club rules) if you are willing to travel. There is always a mix of judges at the Irish Kennel Club shows. The below link will have dates of shows:
http://www.showdogsireland.com/But you are in luck as this weekend it's Bangor & North Down Canine Club which is being held at the Kings Hall on Sat 30th July! There are a handful of boxer folk who will be able to give you some tips & may even know of other ringcraft classes & events. :)
Thank you Gemma, I think I will try make it to the Kings Hall because its only about 45 mins from me :) I have a few friends who show (not boxers , Alaskan Malamutes) so maybe they can help me along.
You said you have a champion who has an un-pigmented eyelid, can I see a pic? :)

toolz that website is brilliant, I can see me doing no work for the rest of the day now ha ha
Noticed something wrong with the UK boxers though..........the Fun in Sun photo is actually Beern' Skittles
I noticed as my Trent Boxer Club desk calender is Bundy this month & I thought wow Yvonne is that good a handler & her dogs are so typy she's made father & son look identical in photos! haha
