I know someone who's girl is due this Saturday and is taking her out for regular "walks round the block". I personally would be keeping the bitch at home at this late stage but would like to know your thoughts on this.
I can't see a problem, if the girly wants to go out, let her at her own speed. She is pregnant not sick. Will be good for her mentally too.
i agree if shes happy to go out then i cant see any problems, road walking is great for them and helps keep them fit :)

Some can get really upset if their exercise routine is altered, she will soon let it be known if it is too much for her.
In my breed the belly/boobs are near touching the floor so they are happy with an amble round the garden when the mood takes them.

I think each bitch should be able to decide for itself the amount and type of exercise she feels up to. My girl was given off lead exercise not too far from home so she could have a gallop or a meander depending on her mood until a few days before her due date by which point she was definitely in more of a meandering mood. After that she was confined to the garden under supervision in case she came early but we have a large garden and she had our other dogs to play with so got the amount of exercise she felt up to.
HTH, Teri

Still take mine out on such lead walks until they show signs of being in actual labour.
I agree with every one on here, as some one said she is pregnant not sick. You would not stop a woman from having a walk round the block would you? Some like to have routine as some one else said i know for a fact my bitch like routines. She is due to have her pups the first week of August and still likes a walk, saying that she is getting slow so might stop the walks soon. Good talking point thanks for that!
I always exercise mine up right up until they give birth. Mine have always wanted to come out with everyone else so they do. If they want to just plod about they can - but I'll never forget the sound of slapping boobs when one of my heavily pregnant girls went chasing off after rabbits :)

What a lovely image lol!!
Do you stick to the same walks or avoid areas where there are a lot of dogs about?

My bitch was still running off lead the day before labour... albeit not her usual full pelt running but she was still doing it. I think they need to keep exercising to keep the muscle tone there as in a large breed with a large litter there is alot of strain put on the body so if they are happy to keep fit then so be it, makes for a much easier birth :-)
