Topic Dog Boards / Health / Incurin or Propalin?

Does anyone knows if there is much difference between Incurin and Propalin?  My 14 year old Golden has only just become incontinent and Incurin does not always work: some days there is no leaking and other days there is and I have to keep washing her tail (and the carpet!) I wonder if Propalin works in a different way and whether I should get some for her.

I would try Cranberry tablets.  My 12 year old has suffered with spay incontinence for a while and I didn't want to go down the Propalin etc route.  I heard about Cranberry tablets and couldn't believe the improvement and it was so quick to kick in.  I get my tablets from Healthspan.  Worth a try IMHO :-)

I found that Propalin (or Urilin) drops didn't work with my bitch but that Incurin tablets did the trick. It could be that you need to combine two products - best to ask your vet.

My bitch is the opposite to JG's - incurin won't touch her but propalin keeps her bone dry.

Also worth having a look at what you're feeding - I've heard quite a few reports of different foods improving things and I've seen it with Soli too; with her, the less processed a food is and the more actual meat is in it, the less she leaks.  If I feed her full-on raw, I can drop her dose to less than half what it is now on kibble.

I've also been told by a lot of US peeps that cornsilk helps - never actually tried it though.

Propalin works on the bladder sphincter receptors, helping them to work better but is not very successful if there is not enough hormone getting to those receptors. That is why a combo of Propalin with Incurin ( the hormone Estriol) often does the trick.
Your vet will juggle these meds to get the right balance.

Thanks for all the advice. She eats mainly tripe with terrier meal and has been on the cranberry tablets so neither is the answer for her. I'll try the Propalin with Incurin for a trial. Thanks,
