how do you become someone that can take in foster dogs

You could contact your breed welfare society - they're often crying out for fosterers.

Also look for your nearest dogs home and ask them if they use foster homes or need dog walkers, home assessors etc

If you have experience of a particular type of dog, look online for their specific rehoming centres.  I know that Terrier Rescue use foster homes - although I have no idea what their process of application might be

Good luck :)

I know someone who used to foster for the lab rescue. maybe ask a breed specific rescue? Lab rescue I believe don't have any dogs in kennels, all are fostered. I think each rescue organisation will have their own set of criteria and checks for fosterer's (is that a word?!) so I don't think it is possible to be able to say you are an approved fosterer generally, only for each organisation that have approved you IYSWIM.

You could apply to Many Tears or Four Paws....MT have foster's all around the country & FP are usually within the 1 to 1.5 hrs from their rescue nr Newport, S. Wales.

Many Tears definitely, but just ask any rescues - not all of them do it but a lot do, and some rely entirely on fosters.

I've done it - not for me ultimately but if you like it, it's well worth it.

You can also try nipping onto Dogpages - they have a volunteers forum where you can do a post about yourself, what you can offer, the sort of dogs you can take in etc and there are often threads on there asking for help fostering.

Iron Mountain Large Breed Rescue are at full capacity and are bursting at the seams. They are crying out for fosterers all over the country if you favour the big dopey types!!

There are lots of rescues that are bursting at the seems and crying our for fosters. If you foster a dog it often means another dog can be taken in by the rescue, so it's saving another life and also helps give the foster dog a chance to shine in a home environment.

I would first decide what type of dog you like, and what would fit in with your existing pack - bearing in mind that the foster dog might have issues that need working on. For example I would probably only foster a hound as they suit me personally.
