Hi guys,
Has anybody ever exported to California. I have a man interested,he is in UK at the moment, which is the only reason i am considering it as i can meet him first and he will be taking puppy over accompanied.
From what i know so far it sounds as if he can offer puppy a super working life over there which being a gundog breed is what we like to try and find for our pups.
Any experinces, good or bad would be very helpful

Ive just sent a male show puppy to California.
The new owners are pretty well known to me and owner/handle their own dogs, they all live as pets in the house despite them being very successful in the breed.
I sent him with an exporter (Ryslip) who I know very well ( one of my dogs lives there :-) ) and everything ran smoothly.
The new owners had visited me after Crufts and seem him in the nest.
No probs - so far :-)

I've done it the other way, the US isn't a bad place for dogs, as long as you're sure he's genuine. At least it's easier to bring them back from Jan if it doesn't work out!
Thankyou both for your replies.
It will be fairly easy,i think, to check he is geniune first a he is in the UK at the moment and i would insist on him visiting me first.
I guess my main worry, having never exported before is how puppies cope with the flight(I'm guessing they would have to travel in cargo hold not cabin).I do get several requests to export and have turned down some super sounding homes due to me worrying.
Maybe i should take the plunge if it means the kind of lifestyle i strive to find for my pups,

I would also be requesting references and following them up.

Give me the airfare and i'll go and check their home out for you ;-)
I do have friends out there, if you do too, then maybe they can do some home checks or how about speaking to the breed club out there and asking them if they come recommended or if they are known in the breed?

Another aspect to consider might be his training methods and practises. I have a gundog breed, which I don't work, but I'm a member of a breed forum which covers this aspect from time to time. I'm surprised by the sometimes very harsh methods employed to encourage a youngster to hold a dummy or to recall.
I don't want to start an off topic debate on your thread (!! I apologise in advance if it happens :) ) but it's just another thing you might want to research before finally deciding.

I agree that a dialogue and rapport must be built up with people before you send a precious pup abroad.
In your case I would hope to become friendly with the buyer ( even if it means he waits for this pup or the next) and find out as much about him and his ethics as you can.
