I whelped a litter of 5 for a friend on Monday this afternoon she gave birth to another live puppy I was totally amazed. Has anyone else herd of this happening? It is slightly weaker & needs help latching on but is feeding and seems to be getting stronger. I will be up every 2 hours though the night making sure she is feeding long night ahead with a small kip inbetween each feed.

Even more amazing is a puppy being born naturally after a ceasarian section to deliver one dead puppy.
My friend had this happen to one of her bitches - Ruggles was a little miracle.

Not heard of it personally but one or two people on here have had it happen. Fingers crossed!

My first litter, years ago now, I had a pup come 24 hours later. My mentor then never saw a vet after delivery, I always do now as my bitch was not settled, we had to hand rear and I am convinced it was because of a bad start with still having the other puppy.

The puppy has made it through the night & is getting stronger. When I went to put it on the teat at 4.30 this moring it was already feeding with all the other pups fingers crossed & I will keep a close eye on it

Glad that the late arrival is doing well.

How can a vet miss a pup on c/section, surely they must examine the full length of each horn right down to the vagina, poor bitch having to contract hard enough to push a pup out after all that surgery.

Does makes me think even more that a post whelping check up is only needed if you suspect a problem and leave a contented bitch alone and not expose her to possible disease at the vets surgery.

i agree barbara i would only take my girl post whelp if i suspected any problems as in the vet surgery with alot of sick animals is the last place i would really want her unless it was neccessary.

so glad the late puppy seems to be doing so well.

For those that have had a friend with a bitch that delivered a puppy after a c-section......oh my....i would be furious!  that is a terrible thing for a vet to miss and poor bitch having to push out a puppy after such a big op....hope everyone concerned was ok in those stories too.
