Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Fish4dogs, change of recipe?
- By Henri3402 [gb] Date 12.07.11 09:52 UTC
White fish, regular kibble.  I opened a new sack at the end of last week, delivered a couple of days before to find that the size of the kibble had increased greatly (I weigh the Frenchies food as they can have sensitive tummies and don't want to over feed), lighter in colour and also the recipe seems to have been "tweaked" as the stools are now soft as opposed to the F4d usual ones, (sorry if anyone's eating)!! Mine don't get anything else on their food and don't have treats apart from show days, our last show was Blackpool, so can't be that. I have e mailed Fish4dogs but am awaiting a reply.

Could they have sent you salmon or sardine by mistake?

I use the small bite and have ordered the salmon this time which should arrive tomorrow, I didn't compare the samples I was sent so interested to see if the look different.

Size of kibble is my one and only issue with fish4dogs - I'd like an in between size!!

Do let us know what f4d's say, I do hope they haven't significantly changed things.  I feed raw but this is my 'back-up' and 'travel food' of choice

To dogs a babe:  Had a reply from Fish4dogs, they say they haven't altered the recipe at all.  Long e mail about the extrusion process - size of kibble, density etc (not the odd few bigger, they all weigh 2g instead of 1g each which the majority of the last dozens of bags did), oil - colour of kibble etc etc.

To the other poster (sorry can't remember who)! correct order delivered, it's white fish, regular kibble on all bags.

So no further forward, but at least they replied (and made nice comments about our dogs on our website)!  Hey ho ......

If anyone is having doubts about F4D since the change of ownership, John has set up a new company selling a salmon and a trout complete, fish skins, etc
http://jonangell.co.uk
He is cheaper than F4D and is at a lot of the champ shows, yet everyone I mention it to missed seeing him.

How long since your previous order?

I had the white fish about February and I would say the pieces were quite large (larger than any other food of recent years), which I liked as the dogs have to chew.

How long ago did the company change hands?

F4D is cheaper by nearly £10 and free postage with no set amount ordered.

I had this recently with a bag of salmon & rice, the kibble was larger & darker in colour than it usually looks, i got similar reply about extrusion process causing the variance & found they were helpful. I thought i might of got a dodgy bag as it coincided with my dog vomiting it up a while after meals, though in fairness i've not re-introduced it yet to be sure it was the cause, it may simply be because he doesn't chew his food & large kibble pieces.

Hi everyone, I've just come across this thread so apologies for joining in at a later date.  Have been away on hols!  I have been feeding F4d food for years now so am glad you put the comparison analysis up for Jon Angells food.  I have a dog with a red meat allergy so am always keeping an eye out.  I am definitely going to stick with F4d food now, having read the previous detailed analysis rather than change to a cheaper one.  I know that the size of kibble can vary from time to time as I noticed a couple of years ago but have been assured that when the extrusion thingy starts to wear out and if noone notices in time, it starts coming out in larger shapes.  If its in larger shapes, its not so compact so will be lighter rather than darker.  Hope that make sense??  The owners arent new, they are still the norwegians that were the partners with the angells for a long time.  They just took over when the angells (parents) retired and have taken on a load more salespeople/staff. They are just down the road from me so I call in to get my treats etc and always end up having a good on chinwag with the staff as they are all friendly and always make a fuss of my pooches!!!
