Apart from barjo who else makes car crates , tailgates etc please ?
- By dogs a babe Date 08.07.11 12:12 UTC
I've always had Barjo before, even secondhand BUT I've just bought our latest one from MMG.  Similar price but they offered a split (stable) door for less which was the clincher.  It's much better with the 3 dogs in the boot to prevent the mad leap for freedom!

I've heard good things about Barnesbrook too but they didn't have our model on file last time I enquired (a few cars ago)

Someone else I know swears by Guardsman

Do check eBay though as there are great deals to be had :)

I got a crate from dogs-health on ebay, highly recommend them, really sturdy crate. much stronger and cheaper than the pet shop black metal ones.

I have a Barnesbrook, was made to order in a couple of weeks, Barjo had quoted about 6-8 weeks, and it was also cheaper. Rattle free as well which my previous Barjo definitely wasn't!!

Barnesbrook will make bespoke cages for you, I had one which Dave made for my Ford Focus Estate with the back seats down so teh dogs had the full back of the car, he will also put hooks etc on there for you.

He then made me one for my Ford Galaxy and made one for my Peugeot Partner.

I do circa 40k miles a year most of them with my dog so I can vouch that they are silent and well made, they also have the advantage of being able to be unfolded in the car to make maximum use of the space.

Cannot recommend him highly enough.

Thank you will spend some time making phone calls. If I pay out this amount I would like the crate to be silent :) travelling around with a rattle is so irritating. Its a shame I cant just dedicate one car to the dogs butits not pracical if so I like the idea of givingthem the whole back area.

Where are you?  I'm in NE England and a friend makes them to order.
- By furriefriends Date 08.07.11 15:20 UTC
Thank you PennyGC south london but I wont rule out travel for the right price/ quality. So far they are all coming in just under £400 or £300 if I go for the tailgate and dog guard.
Still havent got in touch with all of them though

Check your car manufacturer for dog guard price - we bought the dog guard for our newest car direct from a Toyota which was cheaper than going to Barjo or other specialist dog cage manufacturer ...

Barnesbrook for me too, superb quality, lovely design and no rattles.......
- By furriefriends Date 08.07.11 15:46 UTC
Yes dogs a babe honda want £160 for a dog guard and thats just a half one they dont do tailgates as far as i can find out. Have gathered some prices still waiting to hear from barnesbrook and found some helpful people , thank you all now, need a tape measure and to convince oh this is necessary !!!! Then decide if crate or guards but like the temporary idea of a soft crate to reassure her

£300 to £400 thats a bargain i had mine made to measure four years ago and cost £600 but it is double cages top and bottom, 2 top and 2 bottom cages that can take 2 corgis each has lockable doors, escape hatches into the car(friend was rear ended once years ago fire brigade had to cut the dogs out luckly car was not on fire as it took the firemen five minutes to get them out)leader hooks bars to hang coop cups on and bars to hang cage fans on

I am another fan of Barnesbrook and have passed on several recommendations for his crates - everyone who had one made is delighted with them :-)

He is only about an hour's drive from your location and a really helpful, friendly professional chap :-) I can vouch for the crates being rattle free as well.
- By furriefriends Date 08.07.11 21:05 UTC
have spoken to Barnesbrook and he is going to give me the measurements so i can see how much room brooke will have. Also I liked what the lady at Trystorme said theirs are also shaped around the back of the seats which gives abit more space. Forgot to ask barnesbrook about that. talk about one end of the country to the other
- By Harley Date 08.07.11 22:02 UTC
Barnesbrook cages follow the shape of the seat as well to use the maximum amount of space possible. My crate is sloped at the back to follow the shape of the rear seat and also slopes at the front to give maximum space by the car's tailgate. I also had the doors made taller to allow room for a large dog to jump in the crate with ease, a removeable divider, two doors at the front and two rear escape doors and lead hooks. The crate folds down for easy storage but is very sturdy and rattle free which can't often be said with a folding crate.

Thanks Harley looks like it could be Barnesbrook  I can take the car down to them to make sure it is what I want as they are the closest of all of them. Surprising how the prices are quite close in the end except one who came nearly £80 dearer
