I am considering getting a lab and was wondering if anyone has had any experience of how they are with horses. I have two and was hoping in time (ie once it is old enough and strong enough) that the dog would be able to come out with me and the horses.
I have read as much information as i can find on labs but this is never covered! Not surprised really!

I can't speak specifically about Labs but from my own experience I've known lots of dogs go out on 'rides'. I've known G.S.D. Goldie, Collie, X breed AND J.R.T's to mention but a few. Of course safety is paramount for these outings, so your dog will need to be extremely well trained and under control at all times but it's great if you can do it!! Good luck Jackie
A horse owner has had three of my breed with her horses, and another pup lives with 20 plus section A and B Welsh pony mares and foals!, as have others, despite being a big game hunter, it really is a matter of training and habituation of the puppy with the horses, and vice versa.
My friend used to keep horses and had a lab who ambled after the horses when we rode them. He would disappear into the woods as we rode, and then appear again as we came back to the yard. There are horses about where I live and my two labs never blink an eyelid, although the puppy is fascinated. I would imagine it would be a matter of introducing them to each other and learning to respect the horses space, which I should think most labs would be very good at. Lorna
