Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Newbie question - Can I leave early?
- By dogjunkie [gb] Date 07.07.11 15:22 UTC
Hi there. I'm new to the forum and never shown any dogs in UK.

Due to work commitments I can't stay with my dog until the judging is over and exhibitors allowed to leave.
Therefore I am wondering if I would be able to get out of the show early and if yes should I inform anyone in advance?
Thanks for reply and your time guys.

Any time you like. Only Crufts has a time specified.

At championship shows you have passes either sent to you or downloaded from the internet site you entered at and you will need the 'removal order' part which comes with it..to exit with your dog.

You may want to consider what you will do if your dog wins..you will be expect ( if not obliged) to stay for Best of breed or the Challenge certificate at championship shows. Best to think big ! :-)

Best thing about dog shows as opposed to cat shows (where you have to stay until 5 pm) is that you can leave when you have been judged -unless you need to stay for further judging (even then if you win BOB you don't HAVE to stay for the group). At Blackpool the other week we left at about 11 am and took the dogs to the beach for a few hours, now that's the way to end a show. :)

In addition to Crufts I seem to remember Belfast has a time you have to stay until, but those are the only two shows I am aware of.

To be honest I have not read a schedule for ages but at Championship shows it was not uncommon for there to be a leaving time but it was usually early about 12 noon or 1 oc. I do seem to remember though that you are supposed to stay at a show until all the classes  you had entered have finished, something which many do not do nor do they let anyone know they wish to withdraw. Think perhaps as these rules are not enforced they should be dropped.

I wish I was showing in the UK, here in France we have to stay until 5pm or 5.30 at every show!  Every now and then there is a show when we are allowed to leave after judging unless you have won the CACIB or CACS.  We have only had one like that in the last year and it was the nearest one to home and our boy won best junior in breed so we had to stay anyway!  But it is an all day affair with people taking pic nic tables and having a full blown lunch with wine etc!!  So we usually enjoy our day!

Thank you folks , I was so worried about that.

Do you know by the chance if my 42'  crate would fit into benching or should I get smaller one?

Depends on the breed as to bench size.  A 42 inch crate will overlap slightly it is whether the bench will be wide enough.

You can always go in the grooming area or hope the bench next to you is empty lol.
