Topic Other Boards / Foo / Next quality of clothes - is it just me?
- By Gemma86 [gb] Date 06.07.11 10:15 UTC
I've never experienced a problem with clothes bought from Next untill this year.

The suit I ordered for Crufts had random bits of thread coming out on the trousers & jacket but I thought it was a one of due to the type of material so just kept it as it was only something you could see up close.
The the second suit I ordered the leg seam opened on the inner thigh when I was in the ring(it's didn't split or rip it just came undone)
The trousers weren't tight fitting as I like them loose but then I noticed again that alot of threads were coming out & both jacket & trousers. I took them back & was given a full refund.

Now I've just got some new tops & trousers for work and just noticed whilst sat at my desk that some threads in the top are showing and the the seam on my inner thigh has some pretty dodgy looking threads & looks like a peice of extra matieral has been sewn in by accident!

It is just me having bad luck or has anybody else had some problems?

i buy my kids clothes from next and have noticed recently that the seams on the t-shirts arn't straight, when they are laid flat they seem to be twisted.

Not noticed anything about quality as have bought quite alot recently and not noticed anything too wrong. I have bought a couple if pairs of linen dress trousers and they are very good quality .

The only problem I have had was when I ordered a 180 cm wide roman blind whic the very clever courier decided to put it in a five foot shed so bent it to get it in  :-P

Customer services were everso apologetic and a replacement was sent out the next day !!

I don't think the quality is as good as it used to be either, I've bought a couple of tops but that is it, whereas I used to live in Next :-D I've moved to Per Una at M & S the quality at M & S never dwindles.

I have noticed that shoes from Next dont seem to last that long either, both Mens and Womens

Yes i noticed a year or two ago that the quality/materials etc were going downhill at Next.  I used to buy probably at least a third of my clothes from them but i have hardly bought anything this year & i always end up disappointed/regret buying it.  Thank god for M & S i say.

The one thing you need to consider is that that Next have changed direction in the last few years and have become more mainstream to compete with the supermarket brands. They have had to as M and S have.

I think M and S stuff is exactly the same quality as they have had to do the same. If you remember about five years ago they went through a very bad period and they have had to change because of the change in the Market.

We went to get some stuff a couple if weekends ago and bought some of the children's indigo brand clothes for Dingo and it is still the same quality as next children's clothes. Mike also bought a pair of shorts and although the shorts are ok the belt was rubbish. It went in the bin this morning after a couple days trying to use it !

If you don't mind buying online I can recommend a company called Promod http://www.promod.co.uk/

Similar to Next, cheaper and far better quality!

Some nice stuff and an iPhone app as well !

Just wondering though what the sizes mean as looking at the dresses it has either 34, 36 .... Or XS , 1,2 ..... , what is the uk size equivalent ? :-)
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 07.07.11 08:00 UTC
There is a size guide here on their website:

Thanks for the link.

One big problem about the sizes is they only go upto size 16 so not good for us larger busted customers !
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 07.07.11 08:47 UTC
good point...River Island do a larger size (up to 18) if this helps.
- By LJS Date 07.07.11 08:55 UTC
Don't really like River Island not sure why but it maybe the stores that have put me off !

We are quite luckily really as we are not too far away from Bicester Village, Glos Quays and Swindon Outlet Centre so we have a good range of clothes shops to choose from :-)

Another one who has gone off next the quality isn't the same anymore and I'm finding the sizing odd, I thought this was just me maybe putting on a couple of pounds but I got some jeans for my son and their size was skimpy as well.

I bought 3 lamps green with the glass 2 weeks ago  2 table and 1 standing.. it took 7 attempts to get unmarked or bent lamps..no joking.  I do like them although probably over priced.  I think things have changed a bit, that said I like Next, they are up to date and customer service is good so at least if you have a problem they sort it out.
- By LJS Date 08.07.11 08:35 UTC
Norman that is something I can say I have had a problem with. I bought a jacket ( didn't try it on in the shop as hate changing rooms ) and it seemed about a couple of sizes too small. It is sqt in the cupboard waiting for me to loose some weight now !!
- By STARRYEYES Date 10.07.11 17:08 UTC
agree too ... well maybe we should all complain to the company as well as each other.. if we are not happy with thier product how will they know if we dont tell them?
- By Norman [gb] Date 11.07.11 08:35 UTC
I have given up with Next I went yesterday to get a pair of trousers and the size was so out that I gave up and went to a different shop.

I have had a few issues with them recently after I started getting their catelogue. A few faulty items and now a top which has lost its shape in one wash :-(
It appears that their clothes don't like to be put into a washing machine, which is somewhat of an issue don't you think??? lol

Their customer service is very good and no issues there but its a pain when things start to fall apart or are not made well. I have a few items from the kids section and that is where I feel the quality is really lacking, really not very well made at all...

I've just got a load of items today to try on from their VIP sale, not sure of the quality yet... But I live in hope as its all very cheap :-D
