Health / 10 mth old puppy toeing in, any idea what will help?
Hi
My 10 mth old large breed has started toeing in from about 8 mths old. Only on her right front leg.
I have been unable to ascertain from the web, if more or less exercise is better? If it is ligament issue that can be strengthened or something else?
She has been doing quite well in shows thus far but I think this is an obvious fault and obviously costing her in the ring.
Any ideas whether she might grow out of it as she grows?
TIA
Jane

I don't think there is anything you can do to correct it. I've only had one dog like that and he never grew out of it, he still won a RCC and several open show BIS though with some clever handling ;-) When running straight up and down for example drift off to the right when returning to the judge and try and turn the foot slightly when standing.
Thanks, she is straight as die standing funnily, only in the walk and trot is it noticeable
It is worse sometimes than others, ie hard surfaces vs grass.
Thanks for the handling tips :)

If she toes in more on hard surfaces, is straight standing and only recently started it I wonder if it could be an injury then rather than a conformation problem?
Actually thinking about it my horse used to do this too and the farrier put studs on one side of his shoes to compensate, shame you can't do the same for dogs isn't it :-)
Hi
She did have soft pasterns for a while but I put her on cortaflex and in time they came right well. I do wonder if this is connected, I have ordered more cortaflex anyway
try moving her quickly in the ring it hides a lot
LOL I've bene told to move quicker, damn me and my short legs! I will try!
Thanks!

First things first, have it checked out by a vet, best an orthopaedic specialist because there could be any number of problems that could be causing this including problems with the growth plates.
She has had xrays already for an on off limp hips/elbows and all growth plates were fine...
But I will see if it is anything new that could have cropped up

Hope there is no problem but a hard knock to a joint can cause the growth plate to grow uneven so it is always best to check. I can't tell because I can't see but your vet should know if this is the problem without an x-ray.
Thanks I'll get them to give it the once over
Sound advice there from Nova. Large breed & age affected sounds relevant here.
Hope it resolves in time.
