If it's just a patch, have you clipped off all the coat round it? Then you need to wash it with something like Hibiscrub and dry it thoroughly. If it's spreading, you probably need to put on an ointment like Fuciderm (from the vet). After a couple of days it should scab over. It's usually blackish and crusty looking.  If he is scratching he might need to wear a collar to prevent him from scratching off the scab. The inflateable collars like this are easier than the lampshade collars.

Not sure why he is taking tablets - maybe it has got infected? Wet eczema seems quite common at this time of the year. Good luck with him.

if you can get hold of some benzyl benzoate, it works wonders on wet excema

if you can get hold of some benzyl benzoate, it works wonders  Oohh, doesn't it sting??  Use on my horse and he hates it even though its used as a precaution and not on broken skin.

If any of my dogs has a problem with wet exzema, I use Hibiscrub as soon as I see it and with great success.

Both products available from Hyperdrug/Canine Chemist

my my dog had a patch I looked online and it said the most important thing was fresh air. SO I trimmed (very carefully with scissors) all the hair from over it and sligtly around it as short as possible, then clean all the revolting gunge away with cotton wool and a salt water solution. I also have a spray antibiotic that I would have used if it hadn't got better but it did. Has your vet given you a topical antibiotic? cant see your post from here. It is supposed to spread really quickly if not treated so I would return to the vets if its getting no better soon and try to knock it on the head ASAP.

just re-read your post, I really wouldn't cover it, all the advice I found was to open it up to the air and let it dry out, by covering it you are creating a lovely warm damp environment for it to thrive in. if you are struggling to keep him off it have you tried a buster collar and really thick socks/dogboots on his feet to stop him scratching.

twice I have had (diff) dog with wet/Ex. I clipped al hair around it, cleaned with Hibiscrub, patted excess wet off and patted cornflour on wet area, this I did whenever possible maybe up to ten times in the day. it worked. read about this in dog world many years ago as an old fashioned cure. so long as no infection it is a good cure. W/Ex never came back. this is also good for hot spots

My dog seemed to be ok with it. We also use it on the horses if they get itchy tails and they've never been bothered by it :)

Only one of our dogs have had this problem and Hibiscrub was a god send, if you catch it early enough i.e. just as it starts and wash with the scrub every 2/3 hours you can stop it in it tracks and cut out the need for tablets. However as you found it can get infected really really fast, we always have a tub of it under the sink all year round as its just a very good product.
