Confirmed today by our vet that otto has blocked tears ducts,  have been bathing his eyes with duiluted Euphrasia & told to continue. Has anyone any other advice or suggestions, many thanks.

Did the vet show you how to massage the gunk out of the ducts before you put the drops in so the medication gets a chance to reach the point of the problem?

When one of my sons was a baby he had blocked tear ducts, tried drops and massage but in the end he had small op to unblock them. I'm sure the same op can be carried out on a dog.

My GR had a blocked tear duct when he was quite young. There is a very small procedure that can be done to flush them out and this is carried out under GA. My vet advised us to wait and have it done at the same time as he was  neutered thus only needing to have the one GA and this was carried out several months later. Flushing the duct through cleared the blockage and he has been fine for the past 5 years or more - touch wood :-O

Many thanks for your replies, no I wasn't shown how to massage the ducts & was told to continue with the Euphrasia and i'm goint to get him some drops (viscotears), do I gently massage the inner corner of the eye?  Since bathing his eye twice daily it has improved,  poor chap came home yesterday looking like the green eyed monster. He will be back at the vet in a month, so unless I see any changes will keep to the same regime. He has had so much veterinary intervention in his life, with everyday management that I am loath to put him through another GA unless he realy needs it.

Yes you massage towards the opening of the tear duct and you should see the gunk coming out, this also cuts down on how long before the eyes become sticky again and need recleaning.

Warm salt water helps to dissolve the discharge and remove it easily.
