Hi, Thanks, i thought it was a lot for her to put on as she is always about 22 - 23kg when not pregnant. She is only (if she is pregnant) only 4 weeks and 4 days, dont you think that is alot though? she is a slim build and when not pregnant does not eat very much, so thats why im surprised she has put on so much.

She is eating 3 small meals now and eats the lot, she is on wet james welbeloved pouches and then Beta kibble mixed together, i have to use up her wet and dry food then put her on puppy food.

Any one who has got some advice on weight i would gratefully accept.

Thank you again

A bitch 4 ½ weeks gone I would not really have expected to have put on any weight at all (not so that you'd notice it, anyway), and I would definitely not start to increase the food until 6 weeks in.

Really? ok, well she seems to be really hungry, and her tummy is starting to enlarge, should i cut back again then on her food? if she is carrying a large litter would that explain why she is getting bigger?

Thanks for your message!

Pregnant bitches can veer between not eating and wanting to inhale food.

I never increase the amount of food until the 6th weeks as until then the puppies are not a significant size.

An overweight bitch is a poor prospect at whelping.

I monitor their weight in the same way as I would normally checking body condition, but taking into account and enlarging abdomen, so they should be pregnant but fit and slim.

I slowly increase the food over th4e last 3 weeks to about half as much again as normal by whelping, ti is only then that I really start feeding ,usually four times their normal amounts if anything over 4 puppies.
