OK, I know it is almost Midsummer Day, but I need help with my Christmas Tree :)  Do we have any fir tree specialists out there?  I often buy the potted variety, but have never managed to get them past Easter before they look miserable and then turn brown.  This year I left it very late to buy a tree and ended up getting a cut price one at B&Q - reduced to £5!  IT was in a pot, but I presumed it was one of the ones simply dug up and potted, so without much in the way of roots.  It went through the festive season beautifully without any needle loss, and was plonked outside in its little bucket like pot with every expectation of it expiring shortly.  Moving the story forwards, we are now almost 6 months on from Christmas, it still look green and healthy, and this morning there are signs of tiny, bright green cones bursting through on the branch ends - it looks like this one has every intention of trying to stay alive - so any advice on what I need to do to help it along?  So far I have sloshed a bit of water into the pot whenever we have had a particularly dry spell, but that is all.  DO you think it will need feeding, repotting, or do I just carry on with the same tender, loving neglect?  I would love to have a tree that went from 1 Christmas to the next, and even though this one was a bargain buy it is a perfect shape and size.  All advice much appreicated.

That is great - what a bargain!  I don't have advice but I do remember reading somewhere how to look after Christmas trees - I seem to remember that they need some pruning to keep them in shape otherwise they get thin and leggy - off to have a google now.

Thanks for the link, will monitor the situation, as I don't think I should repot in this growing phase.

The RHS site is excellent for gardening advice - I always use that one first.
