I wonder if any of you can offer me any advice regarding my nearly 3 week old pups (19 days today).
All are feeding well and putting on weight but don't seem to be pooing on a regular basis and I'm wondering if they are constipated. That is my first worry. They are active and rush to the milk bar when Mum goes in to feed them and they feed happily, but after some do seem rather whingy, as if they've got belly ache, and wander round the edge of the whelping box squealing. Mum is toileting them but they only seem to be peeing. Two in particular are breathing rapidly, sort of panting, and I'm not sure how normal/abnormal this is. It's only my 2nd litter and I don't remember these problems with no. 1 litter. The room is at a constant 72 degrees.
I gave them all a small amount of cooled boiled water earlier on but that hasn't made any difference. I've also tried stimulating them myself and can only get them to pee. Yesterday and today they have had a single serving of a small amount of raw minced beef - could this be a problem? I have started this earlier than usual, and also did with my last litter, as Mum is becoming less willing to feed them (I presume teeth coming through?). All happily took the meat.
They are due to be wormed but I'm not sure whether this is likely to help or hinder the current situation? Mum was Panacured from day 40 to 2 days post whelping so I can't imagine there is a heavy worm burden.
