General / wanted recommendations for a good upright vacuum cleaner
I have hard floors downstairs and I find that my current Dyson seems to blow the air out to the front which blows the clumps of dog hairs etc away before the vacuum can pick them up. I find myself having to use the extension pipe to do most of the vacuuming which defeats the object of having an upright cleaner. I do have a cylinder cleaner but I hate it. I would much rather use an upright cleaner so want suggestions for one that is good on hard floors. thanks

I use the Dyson all floors as like you I hate cylinders.

Go to the library and find the Which? magazines which have the write ups on the pros and cons of all makes, cylinder and upright.

The Meile Cat and Dog upright vac has many supporters on this forum. The bags are not cheap though.
Best vac Ive bought in 30-odd years breeding and keeping dogs....and Ive had a few!

I have had the same problem and would absolutely recommend the Vax Power4 upright. It has a 4 litre bin and 10 metre lead, it has been brilliant at getting all our pet hairs - not to mention the gritty stuff I didn't know was there, Yuk! We have have in the past Dysons, Kirby, Hoover and Meile - and this one beats the lot!
thanks for the ideas I will take a look

Have a look at the Sebo as well. I use this and its brilliant for picking up dog hairs etc. German made and very powerful

I have had 2 Dyson uprights over the last few years ( animal versions) but recently I bought the George ( like the Henry except it also washes hard floors with a scrubbing brush and carpets with a different attachment as well as excellent at vacuuming carpets ( all tools came with it ) and quite honestly I wouldn't go back to uprights again. I love my George it is great for all floors with animals in the house.

We live down a track so suffer from dust - I found the dyson made it worse so asked and found out its an issue with the bagless vacuums - they make more dust! So I've changed to a Sebo and it's wonderful! ok I now have to buy bags, but small price to pay!

Having hard floors my last few vacuums have been Dyson animal cylinders but the motorised brushes soon clog up. In my grooming room I've had Henrys (good) and upgraded to Karcher, is brilliant, wet n dry pickup, they use bags but I don't bother. I would consider one for the house next time.
