HI I mated my bitch 63 days today wasn't sure if she was pregnant and neither was my vet so at 46 days I had her scanned by a mobile scanner he said he could see 8 puppies and I thought I could see them to. At 57 days she started losing black discharge was really worried so took her to the vets she was alright in herself but thought she must be losing puppieS anyway vet scanned her and said she had not been pregnant and it was just a false pregnancy and in fact had pyo/metris complex and put her on antibiotics and said she will have to be spayed which we were doing anyway.How can anyone be so wrong about seeing so many puppies still not sure whats has happened is scanner right and she has absorbed or was vet right and she was never pregnant.Can you confuse pyo with puppies?

I have spoken about my experience under the herpes thread. My girl was scanned saw lots of puppies  but got to term and there were 3 dead puppies only. Everyone thought I was silly when at about 6 weeks I was sure she looked smaller but I was proved right although at the time I had no idea why it had happened.
There was no pyo in my case of course and perhaps someone else can tell you whether the 2 can be confused. Never heard of that myself.
You must be devastated. I know I was but I was lucky my bitch went onto have a normal litter although I did use the vaccine.

I'm sorry for what has happened with your girl.

My girl was scanned at 6 + puppies(stopped counting then) all seen very clearly and seemed well.
By the time she gave birth there were only 4 so she had reabsorbed the rest.

She was growing steadily and then just seemed to stop, I thought I was being silly thinking that but when there were only 4 babies I knew I was right she did obviously slow down the growth as she lost some of the pups :(.

I know of few cases where bitch has lost the litter and this has caused a PYO so I'm not sure how the vet knows there were never any pups if they were reabsorbed.
