Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Accute metritis - question for those with experience of
- By Trialist Date 07.06.11 22:08 UTC
Hi, this question is aimed at people with experience of metritis following a litter - please, I only want personal experience feedback, not third hand stuff :-)

If you have had experience of this, I'd like to know if you mated your bitch a subsequent time and did she:

a) produce a litter?
or
b) was she mated but no litter produced?

Thanks for feedback.

My bitch had it this time but was her first litter, will let you know this time next year. Are you thinking theres a link? between infection and missing next time.

One of my girls had this after a season. I thought it occured after a litter but the vet assured me it wasn't a pyo, which had been my thought but was in fact metritis. Antibiotics sorted her out. When she was mated afterwards, she missed for the first time and the second time she took but I did hit her with antibiotics the second time just in case.

The information I'm reading on the internet, suggests there's a very high probability of infertility following post-partum metritis :-( However, not coming across too much 'scientific' data.

Yes, can occur at any time, basically an infection of the uterus. I suppose I should have put post-partum in my title. How many pups did she go on to produce on the 2nd mating?

Six :)
