Have Vets started reporting all C/Sections to the KC or does that not start till next year?

Surely it will mean them getting more info from the owners not just call name and the basics of details.

This has been my argumewnt with the Vets practices I ahve dealt with, they seem totally disinterestd in teh KC reg name so I doubt they will hurry to report things.

How do they know who the eye test copies they get refer to?

TBH i dont think it will be policed very well, I cant see them checking chips to see if dog is who they say and check KC for correct numbers etc. Flawed from the out set really

To keep things right every bitch would need microchipping and scanned regularly.

In a breed that only comes in one colour the owner could be passing off  the same bitch as a different one each time to the vet  without proper proof of how many C/Ss it has had in the past.

Using a different vet for on call services further complicates things

If you buy your puppy from a Kennel Club Accredited Breeder you can rest assured there could be no passing off.  Something the public could do to help reduce the number of sections in certain breeds.

How? Unless the parents and pups were DNA tested which I don't think is a requirement for Accredited Breeder.

They will know because the eye test certificates now has a space for pet name in addition to registered name, and the eye vet will ask for that and fill it in. Last had eye tests done in March and this was the case then, as it also was in November last year.

You are right of course if the breeder had opted to identify by DNA profile but I think most will be microchipping or tattooing.

Ah I haven't had one done since September so this is a good move.  I wonder if this is the case with hips etc?

When I had my last eye test done in Sep. The vet read the microchip and made sure it was the same as on reg. papers.
One was not clear, when sent to KC and I had to confirm all details again for that dog.

but many/most? don't identify their pups at all.

Why would that be necessary?  Surely it is the bitch that is reported on not the puppies.

I was assuming you meant the pups when they were bred from, if they don't need any health testing or the owenrs don't have to test then they may be bred from with no permanent ID.

My bitches Reg Docs have the wrong microchip number on them. The KC have the correct details though. I had to have the bitch rechipped when the chip was moving very close to her elbow and she was rechipped. I contacted the KC by phone and just  haven't bothered replacing the paperwork. When she went in for an eye test the vet sanned her and put the chip details on the eye test form, stating that itdidn't matter what was on her paperwork as the KC will credit the eye test to the microchip details on record. If it didn't match the dog on the paperwork they would query it.

Exactly and they, in turn, may escape the whole auditing and controlling of good breeding practices that encourage natural, healthy fertility.  If people choose to only patronise Accredited Breeders who do ID, this process will be all the more successful.
