A friend who has a 8 month old pedigree dog is giving it away because it is too strong for her on the lead. This person laughed at me when I said I was taking my dog to obedience training and has questioned everything I have been doing saying its not what she would do and is pointless etc.

It just annoys me so much that she cant be bothered to even try training to correct this. She says she is experienced so doesn't need to go - err then why can you control your puppy now when you say you  have had larger dogs than this one!!

Sorry I just needed to vent somewhere where people would understand my frustration. Poor puppy I hope she finds a eally good forever home. I wsh I could take her but I just cant :( I doubt she will even try the breed club or breeder as she has just advertised it on Facebook.

...and probably not giving it away but SELLING it.  Do you know the breeder she got her pup from - perhaps you could give them a ring?

I guess what she means by experience is that she's owned a dog before, **rolleyes** some people make me laugh........nope, scrub that cry!

She obviously has no idea how to train a dog if only she had followed Kesmai to obedience class, everything would be different.

I agree in a call to the breeder ask if she will just call as an 'out of the blue' check up.

Ugh, so frustrating for you! I know a few people who think going to dog club is pointless and stupid, they all have naughty dogs :)

poor dog better off with new owner, presant one doesnt deserve a dog. hope they do not get another one.

I know someone just like that - her 'experience' and 'knowledge' is so great that one of her dogs is still totally untrusting of everyone but her 8yrs after being rescued at 8 months old (and would be fine, if the woman had tried using food to encourage her - it's how I gained her trust), and the other is seriously guardy of her (to the point of downright nastiness) and is actually scared of her because she tells him off if he so much as breathes wrong.

She asked my opinion as a behaviourist - but of course the instant it went against what she 'knows' (which about 90% of modern dog behavioural knowledge and training technique does), she ignored it.

Some people are just beyond help and will not listen/change.

Its just so frustrating. If she lived closer I would have dragged her and the pup along to the training that I go to but she is a friend I met online and is miles away. She claims to have had rotties, mastiffs, dobermans etc and was giving me alot of unsolicited big breed advice when we first had Tilly - most of it was complete rubbish. Things like the first walk she took her puppy on was 2 hours and she said that as Tilly was bigger I could do longer - I told her all about the 5 mins a month guideline and she was totally amazed. I have no idea who the breeder is so cant contact them. I am just frustrated but know if I try and get her to reconsider it will not go down well.

She has a british bulldog so maybe I will send her the breed rescue address if I can find it.

Some great news. She has decided to keep her and go to training classes. I have given her the KC webpage for training classes in her area and the breed clubs info so hopefully that should work.

What a shame unfortunately coming across so many of this type of client lately, I try to help usually use a walk right harness if smaller breed and halti if larger.

I too have a prong collar, I use it at group to shock people they all get a good feel and told how I removed it from a client who wouldn't let meuseit on his arm yet he would put it round his pup's neck. A client who challenged the girlie trainer to walk his akita without,and she did!!! By her side, no messing took me 10 mins and a pile of liver cake!! Easy!! Good workout to boot!!

Might be worth asking your friend what worries her about training if it's group maybe 1-2-1 would be better, and I do believe lots of people are scared of trainers as lots turn up at my group looking like rabbits in headlights. Doesn't last!!
