A bitch came to my stud on Thursday. She had been blood tested on Monday and she was 9, the lady was told to bring her Thursday and saturday but if no mating on Thursday to re test on Friday to make sure she had ovulated.

We got a good mating on Thursday with a 15min tie. I told the bitches owners they could come back Fri and sat as they only lived 40 mins away but she declined. Anyway she phoned me on Saturday morning as she had sent another blood sample off on Friday to make sure the bitch had ovulated and her levels were 60.

My dog wasnt very interested in the bitch at all on the saturday but eventually we got a slip mating held for 5 mins.

Would the thursday mating have been sufficient????

I wish she had brought her on the Friday too.

The sperm from a fit dog should live for up to a week, so one day would not have made a real difference unless it was AI from frozen semen.

The bitch won't actually get pregnant until at least two days after ovulation.  So when did she actually ovulate as opposed to when the vet said to bring her.

A slip mating with full contact for five minutes is certainly enough of itself as a second mating, as long as you know the dog had been 'working' (ladder climbing).
