This might sound a little bit silly...but if you don't ask you won't know..:-)

Do little dogs like Chi size need to wee/eat/drink more often than a bigger dog might?

I ask because there is a Griffon (smooth) and is absolutely tiny compared to breed standards...and this dog never stops peeing. I told his owner he should be taken out more often because he is so small...but I was thinking maybe I'm talking trash..:-) lol...so thought I'd find out before I shout at her again for her dog piddling all over the staff room (we bring our dogs to work) and this little dog causes mine to then piddle when he would normally be a clean wee dog...and mine never pees if hers are not there..

Don't know, see no reason why they should as they are made the same and the only difference between the Chi and a Newfi is size. That said it does seem to be the case that the smaller the dog the more likelihood that you will have problems with such things as house training to mounting behaviour but I do not know if there is a reason for this like having a smaller brain or if it is a temperament problem or even its is true. Useless contribution really.

I agree.  It makes sense really - he's going into an environment where other dogs are present, it's not exactly his territory but not exactly theirs either so he's marking it to try and establish whose it is.

Smaller dogs are harder to housetrain and so I let mine out a lot more frequently, but my oldest Papillon  (6) is one that is 100 % reliable as he ALWAYS asks to be let out when he needs to. And he asks a lot, roughly every hour when awake, whereas the big dogs can wait much longer.

Is he actually weeing every time or spraying his scent?  If he's doing proper puddles every time then I would be taking him to the vets as that's not normal and if he's drinking a fair bit and weeing a lot  as well then I'd be looking at such things as diabetes etc.

I have a smooth Griffon, my first. All our other dogs are and have been large working breeds. And I can say that my little Griffon was, without a doubt, much harder to get housetrained. I really don't know why but there it is. She was fine by about 8/9 months and is completely reliable as an adult.

My little  pomx although took 18months to house train and will still mess if she doesnt like the weather or just cant be bothered holds on for hours and hours. Probably wees less than my gsd.
As for food now she is full grown eats at the same time as my gsd too so cant see that being small should make any difference.

He is neutered and doesn't scent mark as such -not like the entire dogs. He does have a proper wee each time and he's been like this his entire life. He's not drinking large amounts, if fact you seldom see him drink but he's on wet food.
