hi my bc pup doesnt seem to listen when i call her or try to get her attention, someone has told me to lay her on her back and hold her under arms to teach her that iam dominant over her, is this the right thing to do???? has any body tried this or have any better ideas all are welcome thanks!

Nooo ! I cant remember how old she is but quite young , it does take them a while the world is so interesting why listen to you? Try treats gentle put her on a lead with treats walk backwards with treat calling her name gentley enticing her when she responds loads of praise. Have you enrolled. In puppy classes yet ? These will help, it will come but the key is loads of praise and treats btw my 11 week old is much the same occasionally realises I am calling her name after all why would she know the noise you make is her name ?

ok thanks, weve not taken her to pup classes yet, waiting for next injection, (next week) every time i put her on the lead she just bites it!!! she bites a lot!!!! most of the time when you call her name she looks at you from the corner of her eye but continues in what shes doing!!

Thats right just what they all do you could be describing my baby lol She is having her a second injection next week too ,so in the meantime lots of socialisation before first walks

The Border Collie is very intelligent.  By dominating it when there is no need will end up with a dog that is fearful of you.  Which makes for a dog that is far more likely to attack when adult.  So many dogs are destroyed when it is humans that caused the dog to bite.

Tohme how would you recommend teaching pups name. I have described one way I use there are other things I do as well and it has always worked with other dogs  but would be interested to learn from other people 

If your collie is a foody .. I would call her/his name in a high pitched friendly exciting tone then treat give lots of strokes and cuddles then say go play ... then repeat through the day.. I treat with smelly, tasty real sausages,  fish , anything smelly usually does the trick. If you sit on the floor and call sometimes tap on the floor for encouragement .. dont keep saying thier name continually as this tend to become monotenous for a pup and they will ignore you, just once or twice then as above , make yourself exciting!

Assuming that she has been checked to see if she has a physical hearing problem (which collies can suffer with) i would assume that you just need to give her an incentive to look at you, food reward everytime you say her name will teach pup that you expect her to look at you when you call. If she hasn't had 2nd vacc yet then it is still very early days. Dominance has nothing to do with it, they are just babies who need to learn just like human babies do.

thanks il try that, the worst thing is she keeps biting constantly and its usually my hand, arm etc, shes got plenty of toys to play with but still preferres biting me!!!!

Keep those toys handy - have one in your pocket at all times if needed!! - and as soon as she starts the bitey thing put the toy in her mouth instead and redirect her game onto that.
