Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Two handlers one dog?
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 21.05.11 22:00 UTC
Is it ok for one dog to be handled by one person in one class and then by another person in another class or is it against the rules?
- By tohme Date 21.05.11 22:06 UTC
This happens quite often when the owner is handling another breed etc.

That is fine and you will see one person stack and show the dog to the judge and another move it but in that case it is custom to ask the steward if they will tell/ask the judge, usual if the main handler is unwell or unable to run.

thank you. ill be handling a friends dog in one class of the two classes she is entered in.
- By Nova Date 22.05.11 10:51 UTC
Only problem with that is your friend will not be able to show under you for a year, if that is not a problem then neither is the handling.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 23.05.11 09:45 UTC
that defernaly wont be a problem, i dont judge. :)

Just thought of another question, if my friend handle her dog in the first class and i handle her in the second class will i still have to put her on the table and move her or will i not have to as the judge will have allready seen her in the other class?

You shouldn't have to put her on the table in your second class, just tell the steward you are a seen dog and she will stand you to one side, the judge will probably get you to take the dog up and down after judging the new dogs before she makes her decision.

Did anyone happen to read a crit in DW recently when the Judge wrote that it was the young handler that needed Ringcraft NOT the dog?  She went on to rebuke him (I think it was a him) for putting his 'seen' dog on the table again.

I rather think she should have vented her spleen on the Steward, if that's even necessary, and used her time in the ring as an opportunity to educate the young person concerned.  All rather undignified, and very unkind, I thought :(

Didn't see it in Dogworld but thats cruel!! We need to be encouraging the youngsters in the showing world as afterall they are the future. She could of had a quiet word with him after the judging instead of broadcasting it in Dogworld! Hopefully the young handler will not run for the hills!

thats a good idea sam, but me and my friend have very diffrent tasts in cloths lol cant imagen either of us dressing like the other.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 25.05.11 10:46 UTC
wow id not be happy if that was me, maby point out that the handling could have been better but think that a bit ott. Glad i aksed here first as my friend hasnt said anything to me about it so im not sure if she knows, ill have to say to her incase she wants me to go in first. So realy if i go second all i have to do is stand her and maby move her.

I remember getting a few critiques in my early days saying both me and the dog would benefit from ringcraft - we did go, honestly!

ok one more question, am i right that if the dog wins one class then doesn not win the other it cant compeat for best in breed? as its no longer unbeaten. Im sure i read someone post that befor.
- By Tadsy Date 26.05.11 12:04 UTC
I haven't shown in donkeys years, so I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be able to correct me if I'm wrong. But as I understand it, no you can't compete for Best of Breed (as you quite rightly say, you've been beaten), but if the dog you came 2nd to takes BOB you can then come in and challenge for Reserve.
- By Nova Date 26.05.11 12:43 UTC
If the judge asks for you but they may have a dog in mind that is already in the ring.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 27.05.11 09:35 UTC
ok thank you
