Could someone please tell me about the right age for a miniature daschund to have her first litter. Know of someone who has two bitches (I could be wrong & will check, to be no more than 18 months) and one has just been taken to stud for her second litter. It makes me mad as she freely admits that she does it for 'holiday money', sells pups for about £900 and even more so that her bitch is taken to a well known accredited breeder.

Don't know for sure but think for a mini 18 months would be OK but not sure if the KC would.

I go with 3rd season or 2 yrs which ever comes first and was told those guide lines by several breeders when I first started researching the breed.

Too young at that age to be having the the first let alone second litter. There are accredited breeders I would not touch with a very long barge pole.

But this surely could be the third season, are there any mini people who could tell us.

Nova the OP said this was to be the SECOND litter at 18 months!

Must have missed that I know that a good few of the smaller breeds do reach their 3rd season by 18 months and some people believe that to wait for the 4th is not good as their pelvis becomes less flexible.

Yes, is see now it was the I'm not sure but will check, though that was the age that was the OP was not sure of not that it may be a second litter.

I don't know how she could be having a second litter as the Kennel club won't register a litter to a bitch that was mated under a year old.

So at 18 months she would have had to come back in season quickly and this would be a  back to back litter with no rest between.

Of course the stud dog owner may be unaware that she has already had a litter and be perfectly happy to accept a bitch of 18 months of age.

Blimey the price is nearly half as much again as the pups in my breed from top lines with all the health tests on parents.

Not good at wording things and this is second hand, which is why I need to check. But I believe both bitches to be around 18 months both have had litters and one has just been taken to stud for her second.

Believe she uses the same breeder for all her bitches. Same place we got our boys, and the last & final time we visited she had mini daschunds stacked in wicker baskets up the wall!

If they are Accredited breedrs have you reported them for any breaches.

Don't worry Lacy, must have had a senior moment and missed a few words and consequently totally misunderstood what you were saying.

So agree second litter at 18 months is not good but a first IMO would be OK.
