Hi, I am new to this forum so hopefully doing it right?? We have 2 dogs, male BC Riley and Female GSD rescue Rogue, but I will introduce myself properly after this.
Anyway, I have had Rogue for a couple years now, I know she had an ear infection as a youngster but had nothing till now. We got her when she was 3 and she's now 6 this month and this last November she had what we thought was an ear infection. We went off to vets and they informed us her ear drum had burst!!! So after a lot of meds, and many more visits and then having it flushed it seemed to have got a great deal better and she was no longer in pain. In January she was bad with her ear again so it was back up the vets for the whole lot again! It cleared up that time too, and she was fine for a month or so. Then a couple days ago she was crying when shaking her head so at the doctors yet again and they have now said that she has ulcers in her ear and she will suffer from this for the rest of her life even though she may not be on medication everyday, she will need to see the vet often and have regular meds to keep it at bay!

I am just wondering if anybody else has had this experience with their dog and what they were given/told and how the dog was after treating and if they were ever cured of this???

She doesn't particularly like the vets but she goes in tail wagging anyway, she gets so incredibly stressed over it and since we've come back from vets she's been crying non stop. It's so upsetting to see her sad and in pain :( Just wish their was something I could do???

Much thanks in advance,
Louise

Has she had any tests done?  Thinking of maybe diabetes.  Don't know whether it's the same with dogs but ulcers in people are one of the things that people suffer with before being diagnosed.  THere are of course other illnesses to that can cause such things.

Hi, no she hasn't had any tests, the vets haven't offered any at all! She is due to go in again in 2 weeks, I think I am going to ask for her to have a swab, maybe see if there is something they haven't picked up? I hadn't thought of diabetes of any kind?? I was told of someone who had a dog who always had bad ears but they found out too late that the dog had cancer in the ear. I will be asking them to check thoroughly though this time.
You expect the vet to know what kind of things to check for and especially as she has been in many times, it really doesn't do anything to helo the trust does it :(
Thank you
