Topic Dog Boards / General / Keep Cool Dog Coats
- By dogs a babe Date 24.04.11 19:14 UTC
At our breed club show yesterday I saw several versions of this type of coat and was really impressed by them all - it was a very hot day.  I got a couple of names for websites but completely forgot about measurements!

The one I think I prefer is the Keep Cool Dog Coat as it has a front wrap strap of the same material.  Does anyone have one of these?  Would you rate it?

He measures 25" collar to base of tail, and 30" chest.  Can anyone tell me what the Keep Cool size equivalent is please?  Don't worry if not, I can email a few people and I can wait til Tuesday to ring - I'm just feeling impatient is all !! :)

My other option is from DryDog Coats - Cool Coat - and this is £34 for our size which I suspect is cheaper than the other co.

A comparison, or any views, would be really helpful if you could spare the time please?  Many thanks

Hi

I have both of these and personally prefer the keep cool coats.

I prefer the fastenings on the keep cool coat to the one by drydogs as my drydog coat has elastic at the front and i found it kept slipping off and not staying in position.

I haven't tried either of those, but can also recommend the Countrymun cool coat, I have it for both my girls and I really feel it helps keep them cool if I'm at a summer dog show.

We dont have the companies here that you mentioned, at least I havent heard of them, but I wouldnt go to a summer dog show without a cool coat!  They are amazing!  They keep the cool for a while, and even though they are soaked in water the dogs dont get wet.  They are a lot more comfortable with one on, and I find they show better if they have had one on before going in the ring.  A must have for people that do summer shows!

There is a thread on the Agility Addicts forum on cooling coats at the moment which you might find interesting.
I don't have any experience of the Keep Cool dog coat but I have a Ruffwear Swamp Cooler http://www.camddwrcanine.co.uk/xcart/product.php?productid=16264&cat=0&page=1 for my dog which is excellent, very comfortable and doesn't get too heavy like some of the others available.

No experience of the two you are asking about, but would second helenmd ... we have a Swamp Cooler and it is excellent.
- By Henri3402 [gb] Date 25.04.11 14:40 UTC
We've been using the cool coats for about 5 years now, wouldn't go to a summer show without them, they were in use last weekend and the weekend before keeping the dogs lovely and cool, had loads of enquiries about them.

Ellie wore hers at All About Dogs today, got lots of comments about how well it worked. She was barely panting at all, only started really when we had to stand in the sun for a while for the fun dog classes, and was fine walking around the showground in it. :-)

This is where I got my cool coat from, it's an american site & the coats are made to order as you can choose which colour & trim you'd like.
I was expecting it to take a month or so to arrive with shipping etc but it came a week later.

I'm confused as to which coat people are preferring out of the two coats first mentioned?

The few people who mentioned they prefer the cool coat; Crespin and Henri3402.  Are you guys referring to the Keep Cool Coat?

Just really interested as I plan to start taking my male dog to some lure races out here in Qld and although we're heading into Winter, I still think he'll get rather hot!
For the Summer months here we have polar cooling collars and (yippee!) air conditioning inside the house, but I think some kind of cool coat would be much better.

Thanks!

Gemma86 how much did the postage cost? and how do they work?
- By Gemma86 [gb] Date 27.04.11 13:32 UTC
Can't remember how much the postage was, but when converted from USD to GBP I think it was £26ish in total for the xxl coat(for a boxer) plus P&P

The coat is like a chamois (spelling) material which you soak in water, wring out & then put on the dog (has velcro straps to hold it on)
It stays cool for well over 24hrs. I was very impressed and bought another.

Is the Dry Dog Cool Coat pretty much the same material as the Ahh Paws Cool Coat?
- By Mbro [gb] Date 27.04.11 14:46 UTC
Yes definatly the same material, but slightly different underneath the dry dog coat has what looks like a very fine webbing underneath (Its the best i can describe it ) & black straps for the hind legs to go through if needed to keep in place
the ahh paws ones just have the front strap & belly strap :) but i am very impressed

Hi Tessies Tracy - Yes.

''I have a Dry Dog coat http://www.drydogcoats.co.uk/Index.php/cool-coats.html''

Is it an english company as everything under customer services is in a foreign language and I cant get any information on delivery times and when I try to send a message it says it cant send at this time. The 'about us' information is signed by 'John Doe, some important guy ' so I am worried the sites been hacked...is it all okay? I really want to order a coat, I have a hot dog who I am sure would benefit especially when we go away in the summer.
- By Mbro [gb] Date 15.05.11 17:41 UTC
my computer did not like the dry dogcoat website & came up with malware, try telephoning 01790 763574

Thank you, I will, I thought it looked a bit odd!
- By dogs a babe Date 25.05.12 11:48 UTC
I should have updated this thread - sorry!

I finally opted for the Keep Cool Coat and it's excellent. I highly recommend it.  Do try and get a fitting though if you can, or see if you can borrow one to try it wet.  She was at Southern Counties and Windsor Champ shows last year...
- By dancer Date 27.05.12 10:32 UTC
I bought two of the easidry coats last year but only used them yesterday for the first time. I took our young dog to Bath champ show where he walked around the stands wearing it and my husband took our bitch to the Game Fair at Highclere Castle. We were both really impressed with how efficiently they worked (and my husband does not impress easily!)

I have now ordered two more this morning (from Nutrecare) and this was the best price I found. Additionally they have a weekend offer that if you spend £55 you receive another £5 discount, so we're really set up for the summer now.

I can see the use of cool coats at shows etc but some where I have seen a cool mat which i also liked the idea of. Thinking back of car and at home anyone either know what I mean or even better has alink :)
- By Henri3402 [gb] Date 27.05.12 18:12 UTC
I know what you mean, can't remember where I bought them but my lot won't sit on the cool mats yet adore their cool coats!
- By dancer Date 27.05.12 18:22 UTC
I also have a cool mat, had them a few years, none of my dogs will sit on them and ruck them up to get away from them. Bought them originally for when they were on a bench if the show was warm. Waste of money!
- By furriefriends Date 27.05.12 20:47 UTC
maybe not such a good idea then , especially as mine ruck up there everyday bedding !

> I know what you mean, can't remember where I bought them but my lot won't sit on the cool mats yet adore their cool coats!

To you and Dancer as well, if you still have these mats, would you consider selling them on? Not necessarily to me.... but for others looking to try out equipment like this who may not want or be able to risk splashing out full price for something their dogs don't like.

For instance someone on a FB group said she had bought a Stag Bar for her dog but he didn't like them - I offered to take it off her hands, as I was unsure about buying one my dog might also dislike. In the end she was happy to send it just for the postage, and it was a success with both dogs, so I bought another from the original supplier.

Either list here on CD, or there are a few Dog Items For Sale/Wanted groups on FB now, will give details by PM if you wish, perfect for finding good homes for any unwanted dog items however small.

And there's always Ebay of course!

PS: We could also have a private CD FB group just to ourselves if we wanted, just to trade items between ourselves, if Admin don't mind.

> And there's always Ebay of course!

Do you know if we can we put links to eBay of items we are selling on there?  I'm about to list a whole host of dog stuff and don't really want to list it on CD as well (eBay is often just easier)

...I just thought if I could put a post on CD Bring and Buy with a link then CD folk would at least know that they could collect some stuff from me on gundog day at shows..
