Morning all
Another thread got me thinking about this
what do you use to clean up outside with ?? We have a concreted area locally known as sh*t alley !
And I hose it ,scrub it,disenfect it and it still stinks :(
So what are your top tips for a sweeter smelling driveway ??
Liz :)

- By ALI.C [gb] Date 02.01.03 11:08 UTC
We used to use Jeyes Fluid:) It absolutley stinks :D But it sure gets rid of the other smell :D
- By Christine Date 02.01.03 11:02 UTC
Hi Liz, when the dogs are inside I put bleach all over the concrete & leave to soak for a few hours then hose off. Jeyes fluis goes down the drains at the same time.

Hiya
It's that horrible 'wee' smell that seems to linger
I use Jeyes fluid -I quite like the smell now !!--put it in hot water -gives you wings :D

Christine --how's your mum ??

Depends on what's up with the dogs. Have they been ill then I use a desinfectant from the vets. If not then I use a vinegar solution, that gets rid of the smell and desinfects as well.

I have a Kennel disenfectant that I bought from one of the shows but much prefer to use bleach for the actual cleaning. If it is just where Rio has been weeing up a wall I might spray de-odour over it if the hose is not handy as I love that bubble-gum smell.

Is that what it's called --Deodour ?? the bubble gum smell has got to be better than the wee smell
Even with the jeyes fluid and such I can still smell it :(

You can get one called Odor-Kill and that too smells of
bubble gum.
I think Animal Health or Vet-Tek in Essex do this variety.
I have a 1litre one and it's really good & long lasting as you dilute
20ml's into about 1litre of water.
Kind Regards

we've tried allsorts for outside and found in the past when had two male dogs that Jeyes fluid takes smell away the best. The fluid itself stinks but at least its not that horrible wee smell that neighbours complain about!

My present problem is how to get wee smell out of the house - our baby has peed all over my new hall carpet - and it stinks. Tried vinegar, perfume (expensive), aftershave (cheap), washing powder, neutrogena deodouriser . Has anyone any other suggestions. I am even considering jeyes fluid as a last resort.

Probably though I will have to accept that should have waited for dog to be housetrained before getting a new carpet and then go out and buy another pieces for the downstairs hall.

Hi Karen,

I've used 'Bac to Nature' for any accidents indoors. It totally eliminates the odour so that my 4 other dogs dont smell what the puppy has done and try to scent over it. Try a search or look here

for inside we bought a hand held steam cleaner from Robert Dyas hardware shop, itr was about £40 but after blotting the accident up we cleaned the carpet withthe steamer and no stain and no smell!
The investment is worthwhile as it cleans allsorts around the home superbly as well !
and of course you save ££ on the usual cleaners!!

Hi Christine

Is the bubble-gum smelling disenfectant the one from Professional Choice ? I use their Pacific Blue one and their de-odour, find them superb :-)

always used jeyes fluid until recently when i found a product called battles black (similar to JF but about £13 a gallon cheaper).

hi liz and cee cee

Will try the surgical spirit and will buy some tomorrow and wash carpet with them if todays attemp at cleaning with bleach has not worked (it is one of those stain free twists that is guaranteed against bleach - so here goes the test!) - took carpet up and was nearly sick with what i discovered - was worse that i thought.

The stuff cee cee suggested seems reasonably priced and will also get some of that for future accidents.

Fortunately, harry has had no accidents this week in day - just at night - when his pee seeps under the kitchen door (floor must not be level ) and then saturates the carpet on other side of door.

After todays discovery shall be putting an old towel in front of door as well as the newspaper to ensure no more seepage on to carpet on other side of kitchen door.

Oh the joys of puppyhood!!

is surgical spirits also called methylated spirits? I think it is purple ?

Also what dilution do you use?

Thanks

Don't think so Theresa any surgical spirits I have seen was clear, may be related tho'. Here you buy surgical spirits at chemist and usually they take a note of your name in a book. Just tell them it's for somebody who has had their ears pierced as they will prob ask what you want it for and that is the most usual reason for buying it

Where do you buy 'battles black' - I like Jeyes for the garden but don't like the price. Incidentally I once a visit from the council dog licence man about a breeders licence. I hadn't actually applied for a licence - nosy neighbour who liked making trouble called them and said I was breeding wholesale. At the time I had two spayed bitches, one elderly male and two young puppies (bought in). I usually use bleach to clean and Jeyes about once a week. The day he visited must have been Jeyes day. I was out and he left a note to ring, he then complimented me on the clean areas, said he liked my basket of daffodils outside the kennel and please could he order a puppy from my next litter!!
- By cooper [gb] Date 08.01.03 10:26 UTC
alice just go to google or yahoo and type in battles black disinfectant and you will get a few links up.you need to buy locally as it costs extra to send in the mail as it is classes as a hazardous substance.so i can not tell you where to buy in your area .we use a veterinary/equine supplier that is local.
- By Alice [gb] Date 07.01.03 21:47 UTC
I use lots of hot water and bleach - kills all germs and smells sweet. Don't let dogs out until nearly dry or at least hose down well first, the bleach might harm their paws and pads if they are exposed too much, also if they come straight back in you little bleached paw prints on the carpets - I know from experience.
- By Lara Date 07.01.03 22:35 UTC
I hose my paved/concreted areas - scrub in Domestos and ordinary washing up liquid with a deck scrubber - leave on for at least an hour and then hose off! Gleaming and completely odour free :)
For those who use Jeyes Fluid remember not to let cats anywhere near its VERY harmful :(
