Rather than tag this on with the queries on Panacur I thought I'd start a new thread.

Those of you that worm your litters with Drontal, do you worm your bitch at the same time as the puppies are wormed (ie. 2, 4, 6 weeks) and if so what with?

I have been using Panacur on my pregnant bitch from day 40, but planned to use Drontal for the pups.

I must say I don't worm my bitch until the worming after they are weaned and she is nto longer cleaning up their waste full time as she will be absorbing the wormer from the puppies.

My girls will eat all the solid waste from their pups up to about the five week mark when they start to toilet outdoors.

I didn't post on (although followed) the other thread.  I have only ever used Drontal puppy suspension for worming pups.. usually at 3,5,7 weeks, and tell owners to continue worming at 9 & 11 weeks, then at 3monthly intervals...

I never worm my bitch during this period. She is wormed before mating (not during in whelp) and wormed once pups are around 6weeks when she has stopped cleaning up after them.  Again, for adults, I use Drontal, I find it so much easier to work with, single dose.

I have given Milbemax once, when vet did not have enough Drontal (15dogs) in stock, and I found the dosage very simple, but having used Drontal for years, I went back to it for next worming.

I use Drontal suspension for all pups I have and no, I don't worm the bitch at the same time -I rather worm her when they pups have their last dose. I worm at 3, 5 and 7 weeks, tell the new owners to repeat at 9 and 11 (if large breed pups, my small ones stay until 14 so them I finish). That way I have just wormed them before they go at 7 ½  weeks so it fits in better.

Forgot to mention this -ditto. Only use Drontal, worm bitch before mating, never during pregnancy.

Oh and sorry to keep replying -also wanted to add that Drontal have made their tablets really tasty. I bought a whole lot at Crufts and wormed everyone. Couldn't put the tablets into my then 5 month old pups' food as they keep swapping bowls when they eat and I'd not know they had the right dose each, and forgot to give tablets to my mother in law to give to her dogs. So I offered two pups and two adults the tablets as treats and they believed it was treats and asked for more! Far, far easier than Panacur which is so fiddly. And just the one dose.

Don't apologise Marianne, all information is useful!

Have always wormed my bitches with drontal at mating and then 10 days before due date. Then pups are wormed at 3, 5, 7 and 9 (if still with us). I have never had any problems but must admit I always worm my bitch with drontal at the same time as the pups .... presumably this isn't necessary ?  Btw, I know a lot of breeders frown upon using drontal for a pregnant bitch but having been assured it is safe I am happy to do this and have done so for 9 years.

I worm the bitch with Panacur from day 40 to 2 days post whelping and then with Drontal tablets at the same time as the puppies are wormed with their Drontal puppy suspension. My vet has always and the Drontal literature says also that the bitch should be wormed at the same time as the puppies otherwise the worm just go round in a big circle bitch cleans pups ingests worms and larvae etc pups are wormed but Mum is carrying worms and they are given straight back to the pups. Worms and their larvae get everywhere. Even with this rigourous procedure this bitch who has at present a litter of  7 week old puppies had a worm migrate into her eye and damage the eye from her last litter.
