Topic Dog Boards / General / Educating the Public - 2nd try !
- By MarkR Date 12.05.11 10:55 UTC
Thanks to this thread about breeding there will hopefully be one less Staffy litter being bred this year.

A job well done I would say. However for every person who takes the time to ask a question on this forum there will be 999 who don't. Can we reach those 999 other people and educate them ?

I have provided a place where the question was allowed to be asked and answered. I have also featured the thread on the front page of the forum. If you look at the bottom of every forum topic I have even made it easy for you to share that information with your friends.

Can you help reach more people and begin to start educating the public ?

I have done my bit, have you done yours ?

I turned a client off the idea of breeding from her boy - lovely dog, but a lhasa x shih tzu x Cavalier - the mind boggles! OTOH I have a pregnant bichon coming in this afternoon for a trim - you win some, you lose some!

Would she actually find anyone wanting to use him at stud -- No forget I even asked, there is bound to be someone who thinks it's 'cute' and would make nice designer puppies !!!

I asked an acquaintance how the health tests turnned out for his dog that he was going to advertise for stud. He asked me what tests I was talking about and once he had read them on a site I directed him to he decided not to use him - so that knocks it down to 998 :-)

Do you think we will get to the top of this list ?

I talked one of my niece's out of breeding from her two staffi bitches, she told me she had people interested in having a puppy from her.
I began by asking if she was going to have the health tests  for her bitch done, she did not know anything about them but would 'look 'into it' ,also if these friends changed their minds what would she do with the unsold pups- then I moved onto the do you know how many staffis are put into dog homes & destroyed each year because of over breeding from people out to make a quick buck  from BYB,Puppy farms & pet owners like herself, who did not  know what was involved, with costs etc. Also how many unsuitable owners ended up with puppies that were turned into aggressive fighting machines - giving staffis a  bad name.
Outcome is that she has now had them both spayed.

20 likes, 1 tweet, 3 shares - Pretty impressive on the Facebook front, do we have any tweeters amongst us ?
- By Harley Date 13.05.11 20:45 UTC
I don't think I can be a tweeter as I don't know what one is :-)

So are you asking us to spread the word by linking back to the CD site and promoting the CD website?

My apologies, but I totally hate FB and wish I hadn't bothered registering, don't ever bother with it now.  I just wouldn't register with twitter, simply because it is not my cup of tea.

Yeah, I know.  Boring old fart.

It is a bit of an experiment to see if social media (facebook, twitter and the like) can be used to get a message out. If it works then it obviously has potential to be used again.

If you want to help reinforce the message by using traditional linking to the thread then that would be good as well. If you have a page on your website which talks about breeding for example then a link on that page to the thread would do wonders.

The url to link to is http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/board/topic/130634.html

There is a great platform here to have your views heard and I am sure it only needs a little boost to spread the word to a wider audience.

Mark - can I suggest that the thread Day 66 become a featured thread?   It will maybe highlight to Mr & Mrs Public that (1) vets aren't always infallible and (2) that things can go wrong with a birth!

put on my FB too :)
