I have never take temperature from a dog before and nearing whelping time I want to be taking temperature of my girl.

So, can you use an "ear" type thermometer or does it have to be an "up their bum" one. (sorry).

I will be buying from ebay - could anyone recommend one to me?

Thanks,
Aimi.

I used the digital one that you can buy from chemists it did signify a temp drop to 36.5 24 hours before whelping but wasnt too accurate in her temperature rising with infection. Will be getting one to put up her bum for next time!

I bought a new digital thermometer from boots, it's made by Vicks and it's an "up their bum" one. It is the comfortflex fever insight one, it reads the temperature really quickly within 10 seconds. I have used it on one of my dogs and it was accurate, easy and quick.  It also has this traffic light colour changing feature which is for humans but could still come in handy.
